Title: British Legion Badge
Post by: Tom Langley on Monday 10 August 20 19:58 BST (UK)
Hello, my Nan showed me a british legion badge she had along with some other medals that were my great grandfathers. I am not sure if the badge itself was his, but I was wondering if there is a way to find out more from the number on the back? A 185846

Is it just the badge to want to find out more about or your Grandad's
possible military career?
Do you know what the other medals were?

It would be good to find out if it is actually his. I dont know what the badge is all about either to be honest. Is it just something you had for being a member?
I have quite a lot of info on my great grandfathers time in the war. He was a Lieutenant in WW1 and later a special constable in WW2.

The British Legion became "Royal" in 1971 so no help there.
Looking at others this one looks quite early.
You would need to contact the RBL & see if they can identify the original owner.
At present there's no reason to believe it's not his if he was a member of the Officers Club
post WW1 as this merged with other Military organisations to form the British Legion.
He would have received one of these with his number on the back by right.
