I have a Mary Steven who married into my late husbands birth family. It was the second marriage for both parties in 1917 taking place in New Zealand. All I need is Mary's date of birth. Am i right in thinking Agnes's birth would have the most information? Then I can find out when the family came to New Zealand
Warning The following i have found on family trees on Ancestry.com.
1851 and 1861 Census living in Kilmarnock.
A number of trees have this family as
Thomas Steven - Tailor
Agnes Wilson b abt 1819
Children; Thomas, Margaret, Mary, William, Agnes, Jean, and Marion.
Some trees have dates of birth but no sources.
Mary b 1846,1847,1848 Kilmarnock
William 1850 Scotland
Agnes 9 April 1855
Jean 22 Oct 1857
Marion 1860
What i have found
On S.P a birth for Marion 22 May 1860 confirming Parent's names born Kilmarnock.
On F.S a marriage for Marion Steven to Robert Smith 1877 New Zealand.
Any help steering me in the right direction to confirm Mary's Birth would be most welcome as I am not up to date with Scottish Places
Thank you for reading.

Are you saying that Mary could be Marion b 1860? She would be 57 in 1917 so does that tie in with either her marriage cert or her death cert?
If she was previously married to Robert Smith - would she have remarried as Smith not Steven? Any info on the 1917 marriage cert to support her fathers name or her previous married name?

Mary and Marion are 2 Seperate children.
Mary married a Henry Garron in New Zealand and was widowed. William Thornhill a widower married Mary Garron nee Steven 12 Oct 1917. They had no children from the second marriage. They both died in 1927. The Thornhill family are the birth family i have been tracing. I just need Mary's date of birth to tidy that part of the tree. The only Birth I could find on S.P belonged to Marion which confirmed the parents and place of birth according to Ancestry trees. As she married in New Zealand I hope I am on the right track to pin down Mary.
Trying to go sideways to end back at Mary.
Thanks for taking the time to read this. It is most appreciated

I am waiting for her Intention to marry Certificate but with Lockdown restrictions coming back in and our Archives looker upper employed I have to be patient.
Don't want to pay for a death cert at this time as she is not family. Not cheap here.

Mary b 1846,1847,1848 Kilmarnock
If she is the Mary who married in 1917 - she was in her 70's - would that correspond with what you know about William Thornhill?
If it is her - then you are looking for a birth pre-civil registration and nothing is showing on Scotlands People in Ayrshire
The Steven/Garron marriage was 1880. Henry was born 1851 Berkshire and immigrated 1874

Am i right in thinking Agnes's birth would have the most information?
If Agnes was born in Scotland, yes, her birth certificate will contain more information than any of her siblings' birth certificates.
-
Yes, Agnes was born in Scotland according to Ancestry trees. They have a birth date of 9 April 1855 for her. But I cannot find her on S.P.
Place of birth is said to be Kilmarnock, Ayrshire.

Agnes birth 1855, Seems to have been registered at Galston.
-
Agnes at Galston is the wrong one. She was born 7 April 1855 and her parents are George and Janet

I did have a warning on my first post.
Father Thomas was a Tailor living at 3 Low Glen Street, Kilmarnock in 1861 census.
Thomas died 27/10/1901 in Otago New Zealand. Born in Scotland. Lived in Otago 33 years and was a Tailor.
The wife was Agnes Wilson died 13/8/1901 aged 82. Born in Scotland.
Daughter Marion was born 22 May 1860 at 1 Low Glen Street, Kilmarnock.
So why can I not find Agnes supposed to be born 9 April 1855 Kilmarnock or Mary born 1846,1847 or 1848 Kilmarnock?
I have ruled out Mary born 1847 Germany ;D

Hi Carol.
There is a birth for an Agness ( double s) Steven in 1855 registered at Kilmarnock on Scotland's People.
Looby :)
-
Got it. Thank you. Parent's are correct.
Agness was born 9 April 1855 at 9.40pm. ( Birth date matches with 1 Tree )
States 2 boys living 2 girls living, this matches the 1861 census.
Also 1 boy and 1 girl dead :'(
This is as close as I will get to finding Mary's birth so I'm happy with that. I have the right family.
Thank you to all who have helped.
