Title: Mary Jane Wilkinson Thurlebeck
Post by: kiwistar on Wednesday 19 August 20 08:33 BST (UK)
Hello everyone

Just needing help tracking down Mary Jane Wilkinson Thurlbeck.  I have found her born 24 Oct 1844 in Sunderland and passed away 05 Jan 1912 Durham.  I know her father was Pratt Wilkinson and Mother was Eliza Hammet.  I just want to know where the Thurlbeck came in.  I presume she was married but would love to find out any help would be great thanks.  I know she married John Wardropper

Many thanks
Sally

Could you just say which GRO birth reference you have for her, and her year of marriage, please?

For reference - Is this the family in 1851 living in Bishopwearmouth Durham??

Pratt Wilkinson    39
Eliza Wilkinson    35
Eliza H Wilkinson 13
Mary A Wilkinson 6
Robert Wilkinson 4
Isabella Wilkinson 18 Months

On the GRO Birth Index this Mary is listed as Mary Ann Wilkinson - Where did you find the surname Thurlbeck?

Just to emphasise they are two different John Wardroppers ( and that Mary Ann Wilkinson and Mary Jane Thurlbeck are not the same person).

The John Wardropper who married Mary Ann Wilkinson was a gilder. Mary Ann Wardropper died in 1910.

The John Wardropper who married Mary J Thurlbeck was a shipwright.

Thanks for sorting the link, Boo.

And just to add that there appear to have been two Wilkinson / Thurlbeck marriages in Sunderland. A John Wilkinson married a Mary Thurlbeck in Bishopwearmouth in 1807 while a William Wilkinson married an Ann Thurlbeck in 1809.

How does the Thurlebeck appear - added to her name or just randomly scrawled across the back with a ?

Added to her name so just not randomly  ???  It's really confused me now as they had a portrait each done at the same time with names on the back.
