We have found this photo in my mother in laws photo collection and have no idea who it might be!
If anyone is able to give any clues as to the uniform and time period to identfy who it is in the family tree it would be much appreciated

Well it is a Naval uniform, I have no idea of rank etc .
Any history in t he family of someone in the R.N?
Hope you get some better information.

Looks a bit like Admiral Jellicoe? ;D
Skoosh.

More a warrant officer than an Admiral.

I’ve got a relative in the merchant navy in WW1 and relatives in the RN but I think it’s too far back for this photo? Any ideas of the time period?
-
It's WW1 era, a Royal Navy Warrant Officer with less than 10 years seniority (I think).

That style of uniform was still being worn in WW2 having been around since at least WW1, he is not a Master at Arms because he would have lapel badges if that was the case. A RN Warrant Officer though is almost certainly what he is. Perhaps Seaweed if he is around could help.

Thank you, I was guessing it was WW1 area I’ll have to investigate further who it could be?!

He has a medal ribbon but I cannot make it out. I suspect the photo is pre-WW1; if it was later, he would likely have the medals for that war. The high starched collar also suggests it is pre-WW1 (though not a guarantee).
