Title: Bohemia Births early 1800s
Post by: dave1948 on Monday 24 August 20 13:27 BST (UK)
Hi Guys,

I have done a bit more digging and found Johann Lotz baptism in 1835 in Bergreichenstein, Bohemia, but as usual, I can only make out so much. Born and Baptised on same day 5 Feb 1835 and was son of Johann Lotz and Susanne Huska. The link is here    http://www.portafontium.cz/iipimage/30063642/kasperske-hory-05_2610-n?x=506&y=-11&w=463&h=189 . A translation would be appreciated. His sister, Caroline,  was born a year later on 30 Mar 1836 and may help with the details as they were still at the same address  http://www.portafontium.cz/iipimage/30063642/kasperske-hory-05_2610-n?x=506&y=-11&w=463&h=189 .

His father, also Johann was born  19 Apr 1778 in Wassersuppen Bezirk Taus (Bohemia), I have looked for this area in Taus / Domazlice but can not find it mentioned? Does it go under another name for the District ?

Many thanks, Dave.

Hi Dave,

I'm a bit stuck for time today, but maybe this will help with the location:

Wassersuppen:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nemanice

Taus:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doma%C5%BElice

I'll have a look at the rest when I get a mo. Unless davecapps comes along in the meantime.  ;D

Best regards,
Karen

Hi Karen,

Thanks for suggestion of Nemanice. I have looked there, and found the index for births of Johann Lotz (Senior) in 1778. Here comes the problem.

Johann (Senior) married twice, 1798 and again in 1834. The second time he gave his birthdate as 17 April 1778, and his parents as Martin and Cäcilia. I can not see any place of birth. This is his 1834 marriage   http://www.portafontium.cz/iipimage/30063646/kasperske-hory-09_0080-o?x=5&y=-7&w=1023&h=419  .

Looking at the index page for his birth (I cannot find the actual entry), I am unconvinced it shows him. The 3rd and 5th entries are Lotz, but the first name is Joseph. It looks like, maybe, the first one died, but both are August not April. Also, curiously, the 4th entry has the father Martin (Oops, that is NOT father Martin, but a placename. Maybe that's what researcher had thought? )  and was born April. Here's that link   http://www.portafontium.de/iipimage/30066259/nemanice-01_0870-r?x=-35&y=-56&w=958&h=392 .

My thoughts are, someone researching saw this and just assumed it was him without checking further, ... and everybody has just copied it onto the Web.  Do you agree and do you have any further suggestions.

Thanks, Dave.  :)

Hi again,

I have looked around and still cannot find any reference yet as to Johann Lotz’s birthplace. I have looked closely at his 1834 marriage details, and as far as I can make out, I cannot see any reference to Wassersuppen, which is where everyone says he was born. This is that marriage  http://www.portafontium.cz/iipimage/30063647/kasperske-hory-10_1040-o?x=68&y=115&w=468&h=191 . Does this have any clues?

Thanks, Dave.

Hi DaveC, Thanks for confirming that it was his father living in Wassersuppen, and that I hadn’t missed something, … I live in hope, lol. I am starting to think that although he states his birthdate, sources have used his father’s current town as his birthplace, which may well be elsewhere…

The Deutsche Biographie page, I have seen before in searching and helped confirm and add more details for me, but thank you for posting it.  The Google page I haven’t seen before and looks interesting. As you said page 12 has his name, so will translate the title and details.

Thanks for all your help, Dave.
