Title: Saunders family -Rhymney
Post by: merthyrastley on Wednesday 26 August 20 10:03 BST (UK)
Hi all

Totally confused again, hope you can help.  John Saunders born 1820 Rhymney. Cant find a baptism around this time. Married an Elizabeth ?   Born Blackwood Monmouthshire.  Must have been before the 1841 as I have them on the census in Ebbw Vale  aged 20 living with John Rees aged 20,  Samual Pritchard 20 and  Mary Saunders 15. Page 9 H0107 750/8 all born in Monmouthshire. I am thinking Mary is Johns sister and out of the 2 is a brother to Elizabeth. I  cant find a marriage anywhere. Checked Rhymney parish records and have found a bapistim for a John Saunders birth 1821 and baptized 1849.

If John and Elizabeth had children you can look up their birth registrations to find her maiden name.

Do you have an 1851 census for them?

Have you ruled out a possible 1840 marriage?

There are 2 Elizabeth brides

Owen

Jones

which may or may not belong to the John Saunders groom listed.

Another Saunders post here

Was Edward one of their children?

You must have them on a later census to know their birthyears and birthplaces so please post full details of that entry

I can't see an 1851 or 1861 entry with those birthplaces.  There is an 1851 & 1861 entry with a son Edward so where did you get Rhymney & Blackwood from

Link to 1861 in my reply above - on both 1851 & 1861 entries birthplace is Bedwelty for John

You can look up their childrens births on freebmd then use the website below to get mothers maiden name

www.freebmd.org.uk

1851 reference below - eldest child was 8 so marriage definitely post 1837.   Elizabeth b Mynyditlwyn not Blackwood

If you find Elizabeth's maiden name and then their marriage - the marriage cert should give his fathers name and occupation

Just come across a tree on another site with some of my Saunders relations in it and its got John's marriage certificate.  Its got Elizabeth'S surname as Jones wedding was on 2nd Nov 1940 in Mynyddislwyn Parish Church abode of the bride was Caerphilly  spelling was incorrect and John it looks like Waterloo. Elizabeths Father was Phillip and Johns Father was Edward.  Dont think it the Usk marriage as the family are still in Usk in 1841. thank you all for your time

Looks like Waterloo was a pit in Oakdale, near Blackwood.
