Hi. I’ve finally received the marriage certificate for my great grandparents. Williams Henry Williams and Nellie James. It tells me that his father is called David Williams. All from the district of Pontypridd. I’m looking for the 1901 Census record to try and find out what the mother was called. Williams Henry Williams was born in 1896 Pontypridd. Will try and post a photo of the certificate. Would appreciate any help. Thanks

There were 4 WH Williams born Pontypridd in 1896.
Mmn. Jones, Davies, James & Owens.
Not much help is it.
What was father's occupation?
This one so far:
Pontypridd 1901:
RG13; Piece: 5010; Folio: 115; Page: 51
David Williams 40
Mary Williams 40
Annie Williams 12
John C Williams 9
Esther Williams 7
William Williams 6
Thomas Williams 4
Authur Williams 2
David is a coal hewer.
Looking at the birth of one of the children Esther b. 1894 there are
5 born 1893-5 Pontypridd but none with above mmn's.
So may not be the right family.
According to the 1911 they had been married 26 years.
RG14; Piece: 32316; Schedule Number: 149

Unfortunately I can’t seem to share the marriage certificate in here. William Henry Williams was born on 2nd July 1896.
-
What was father's occupation?
-
Coeliery surface worker according to the marriage certificate.
-
Same as the David above but that's not enough as this applied to many.
Are there any clues in the witnesses names.
-
OK David Williams married Mary Howell 1886 Pontypridd.
Ref. Jun 1886 Pontypridd 11a/553.
These are the 9 children she says she had in 1911.
1887/William John
1888/Violet Hope
1889/Annie
1890/Vernon Stanley
1893/Esther
1895/William
1896/Thomas
1898/Arthur
1901/Mary Emma
1911 shows Maggie Williams dau. b. 1896 but I can't see a birth registered for her.
The mother says she had 9 & 1 died but this one makes 10.
1911:
Annie Williams 22
John Williams 19
Esther Williams 17
William Williams 16
Thomas Williams14
Arthur Williams 12
Emma Williams 9
Maggie Williams 5
No Vernon or Violet but there is a Violet Williams marrying in 1910 Pontypridd.

Unfortunately not- they are both for the other side James!

Emma Williams 9
Maggie Williams 5
This is amazing thank you 😊

Correction:
Violet & Vernon are from another family.
Must be 2 Williams/Howell marriages.
It also means we're 1 missing as we're now down to 8.
-
The line up looks like these:
William J died 1887
Annie
John C
Esther
William
Thomas
Arthur
(Mary) Emma
Maggie

Thank you. When you’ve been looking- did you notice the date of birth for David and where was he born!!
-
Depending on which census you look at he was born 1860 Neath (1901)
or Pontrhydyfen (1911) abt. 4mls. away.
-
Vernon Stanley Williams born 1890 has his mother as Elizabeth on the WW1 papers on ancestry
Are you sure he's the same family? (there may be two Vernon Stanley Williams the same age in Glamorgan)
-
Is there any real evidence that William was actually born in Pontypridd?
I keep wondering about this chap:
GRO Births:
WILLIAMS, WILLIAM HENRY mmn FOWLER
1896 S Quarter in LLANDILOFAWR Volume 11A Page 1127
He's on the 1901 with his widowed father,David and grandparents Lettice and Phillip in Bettws.
Piece: 5108; Folio: 86; Page: 13
Same place in 1911 but father has re-married to Eleanor JOHN.
The father-David-seems to be on the 1939 register as living in Tonyrefail. The only snag is that David seems to have been a bootmaker up to 1911 .
Are there no addresses at all on the marriage cert??
Maureen
-
Hi yes we have an address for William Henry in 1918 as 18 Meyler street, Tonyrefail.
-
Blimey I can see why you think it could be!
-
Bit of extra information on the certificate is that William Henry Williams profession state: Driver REA 279509 coelier - excuse the spellings only the handwriting isn’t the easiest to make out. REA could be R ? A the middle letter is a little difficult to make out.
-
RFA=Royal Field Artillery.
-
One possible in 1901
Willie Henry Williams aged 6 in Trebanog (less than 2 miles from Tonyrefail) living with his grandparents William and Elizabeth Griffiths - their married 45 year old daughter Mary Ann Williams is also there - no mention of her husband, and several other grandchildren - the older brother is a colliery worker
-
Ok thanks. What’s the best way I can confirm this!

Hi all, I’m not getting very far with my great grandfather. I have the date of birth is 2/7/1896. According to his marriage certificate he married Nellie James in 1918 and his father is written down as David Williams. I would like to order a birth certificate however when searching the gov website, I have 4 entries for the same name- I do not know the name of the mother which is causing an issue. It could be Owens, James, Davies or Wood. Can anyone help me find out the mothers name?? Thanks 😊

as you have the date of birth you could apply to the registrars in Pontypridd and ask them only to issue if the details match.
