Post by: RICHIE on Thursday 27 August 20 11:48 BST (UK)
Hi
I'm looking for help for any information with regards to Elizabeth Thomas ---Elizabeth was born about 1831 in Radnor . Her father was Samuel Thomas and her mother Elizabeth . Elizabeth Thomas married William Lewis in presteigne about 1853 . I cannot find an exact date of this marriage. William Lewis was born about 1816 in Northwick Cheshire . I would love to find the exact marriage date for Elizabeth and William and also more information with regards to her parents.
any help greatly appreciated.
regards
Richie

I cannot find an exact date of this marriage.

You would need to order a copy of the marriage certificate to get that but first have you found the marriage registration in 1853?

If not then we are a bit stuck.  Also the possibility they never actually married.

When was their first child born?

Are the Thomas's in Presteigne in 1851 Census?

May I ask if you dont have the M//C you know her Father was Samuel?

Having said that will go with Samuel/Elizabeth.

1851 Samuel is born c 1796 Llangunllo on Anc. (Llangynllo)

F/S has a Samuel Bapt 18 Sep 1796 Llangynllo but the entry is on FindMyPast which I dont have access to.

Trees have Elizabeth Mother as Davies and there and there is a  Marriage ;13/10/1823 on F/S

1841 Census we have;
Samuel Thomas   45 Inkeeper
Elizabeth Thomas 35
John Thomas   15 Tailors Appr
Samuel Thomas   15 Bakers Appr
William Thomas   13
George Thomas   8

No Elizabeth there.

Someone with more expertise in Welsh research may be able to help you more :)

Hi
Thank you for the replies. Details that I do know are that the family moved from Wales to Aloa , Scotland where my grt grt grandfather Walter Lewis was born . The family later moved to Hackney.
I believe I got the information about her parents from find my past and family search but that was a long time ago ---- it was a family line that I had just put to one side as I kept hitting brick walls with regards William Lewis's parentage etc

Hi
Thank you for you help and reply ----- I wonder what the reason was for father and son to die so close together . It could be expected of the father but for the son to pass away several days later has got me thinking of reason's . Was it due to illness or did he perhaps take his own life due to grief .
Regards
Richie

From the will of the father the son was seriously ill in bed.
If you have access to Ancestry you can read the will online

From Hereford Journal:
On Monday 21 September 1857  and on the following two days, on the instructions of the executrix, everything went up for auction. Included was the Inn with all fittings and fixtures, Bakehouse and two cottages. The list is quite extensive.

It seems astonishing that after this Elizabeth and William Lewis moved to Scotland and then later to Hackney when after the death of William Lewis she ended up in the workhouse. My great grandfather Walter Lewis born in Scotland ended up in an industrial school.
