A William Ball alias Hornblow appeared at a Quarter Sessions Court in 1879 re an incident at Highworth.
I would be grateful for some comments on what interpretation I should put on 'Alias'.

It means that he sometimes used the name Hornblow instead of Ball.

As Hornblow, he had a previous conviction in 1868 (July 23rd at Swindon) for stealing hay and had served 42 days hard labour.

Thanks. There were many newspaper reports of a William Hornblow getting into trouble. Unfortunately
there were 2 William Hornblows in Broad Blunsdon born within a year or two of each other and both with a mother named Mary. Very difficult to separate one from  another. T.
