Elizabeth Katherine DAWNAY nee GREY
1908–1941
BIRTH 13 OCT 1908 • STRAND London
DEATH 25 FEB 1941 • Montreal Hospital, Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Is there a 'cause of death' report for this young mother?
Source:Andrews Newspaper Index Cards.
Is 'died suddenly' a euphemism for suicide?
How did she arrive in Canada as her 3 young children travelled separately in June 1940 with 3 young BARING children and their mother
Mary Cecil BARING nee GREY
1907–2002
BIRTH 5 MAY 1907 • St George Hanover Square, London

I would not say so, I have seen that phrase used often in obituaries.
-
I agree with rosie. You could look for the birth of a baby about that time....though of course it may have been an accident or illness.
I think in those times people were less open about causes of illness and unlikely to mention the cause of death in public media.
-
This obituary mentions that she had only just reached Canada where her children have been staying from a visit to her husband.
There is a passenger record in 1940 to the USA for her.

Civil registration only began in Quebec in 1994 so there will only be a burial record. The image of this burial record can be seen in the Drouin Collection on the Ancestry website if you you have a sub that gives you access to Canadian records. If not, it should also be available on the free familysearch website.

Many thanks to you all.
The New York passenger arrivals appears to show her In Transit from Durban South Africa but resident Egypt.
I see at thepeerage website another baby son listed
John Alexander George Dawnay was born on 28 March 1938. He was the son of Lt.-Col. Ronald Dawnay and Lady Elizabeth Katherine Grey. He died on 14 March 1961 at age 22, unmarried.
Perhaps this son was born in Egypt?
I now see mother and son are on the 1939 register.

There was a son Andrew Charles Dawnay born 89 Nov 1934 died 23 August 1998 St Germans Cornwall.

Sandra,
Yes you are correct.
Mary is where I started to explore these children and found them being evacuated to Canada. Hence my original query.
It did bring home to me the evacuation experience for all these young children in a strange land and compounded by the 1941 death of the their mother.
My wife, aged 6, was also sent to Canada August 1940 but flew back early via Lisbon only to have a German fighter plane shoot them up over the Bay of Biscay.

The children went through a lot if they were informed, as ThePeerage site also mentions that Ronald was said to have been a P.O.W some time in 1942. Married again & lived to be 82.
Just found evidence of him serving Jan 1945 so not sure about that???

We probably should not be discussing Mary as she appears to be alive, but already has a great deal of published celebrity for numerous accomplishments so probably alright. (magistrate-20 years / climbed Mount Kilimanjaro - twice)

Individual & group portraits of Mary & her husband & children
Husband used John at marriage but appears to use Richard later in life, perhaps to differentiate from his father. Wish my rellies would have used repetitive names as only middle names.
