Title: Diary > Thursday 10th September
Post by: Roobarb on Thursday 10 September 20 22:08 BST (UK)
Was woken from a deep sleep by nice neighbours' dog barking continually which is unusual. Dragged myself out of bed to look out of the front window to see what was wrong, should have guessed that the window cleaner was there, the dog always goes berserk when he's around. Put some clothes on and went to open up for him (the window cleaner) to get round the back then put the kettle on. It was bright and sunny but quite chilly.

Later on I went to meet my friend L for lunch at the same pub as I went to last week with my friend A, the food is good and they're great with the necessary safety procedures. Didn't know what to wear, always find it difficult at these mid season times but I wanted to wear summery colours as I haven't worn most of my summer clothes this year. Had a lovely lunch, it was good to get together. I'd left my jacket in the car, wished I'd put it on as the pub door was open all the time and I ended up feeling cold. Nice to know that the pub is well ventilated though.

Back home I changed into warmer clothes and had a hot cup of tea then went out for my walk. Put a spurt on as I was still feeling chilly, thought it would warm me, my feet were warmer but not the rest of me so came home. Read for a short time then thought I should be doing something so hoovered and dusted downstairs, that did warm me up. Had bought some rhubarb in my Tesco order so cooked that. Had some with yogurt later, much nicer than the tinned stuff which is a bit too sweet for me.

Was hoping that my art class would be resuming soon but it's not looking promising with the new regulations, although I don't know whether it would come under the banner of Education, the same as the schools. I suspect not.

That's it for my day, hope it's been a decent day for others.

Added at 22.13, Helicopter has just flown low over the house, descending rapidly towards the sea, my heart sinking with it at the thought of what might be happening.  :(

Pleased to hear your lunch visit with your friend L was a success even if a bit chilly. Oh dear hope the helicopter you heard doesn't result in anything to unpleasant.

Had a good sleep last night was really tired.... must have been all the Yogalates I did! The sun was out but it didn't feel that warm... OH had gone off to golf before I got up, once I did and before breakfast I dressed and went out to the greengrocers ... there was quite a lot of traffic around but could be just the time of day with people going about perhaps having taken children to school... I was out a very short time and once home I had breakfast and thought I'd see if I could get a c n c slot for Monday...id had a quick look last night to find they'd jumped from Sunday... still some slots missed out Monday & Tuesday gone straight to Wednesday... bit odd anyway this morning Monday and Tuesday were both available sompicked my usual 9am slot.... ordered some bits to confirm slot... I'll go back later to bulk it out.
Mid morning by now so thought I ought to start cutting out next lot of face coverings... I've now bound the handles of two pairs of my large scissors as they rub when I'm cutting lots of layers together! Took me rest of the morning and I'd just about finished cutting out about 140 when OH returned.. he was happier today than last Sunday thankfully... had some lunch chatted for a while... his golf partner who'd had accident with cyclist hadn't been driving a car he'd been riding his bike when they clashed! Both were ok except friend had a corker of a black eye apparently!
Returned to my workroom and got on with actually sewing.. as I know she'll be in touch with me soon to see how I'm getting on!
Managed to do quite a lot and by 6pm thought I'd sort out dinner... we were going to have fish but neither of us fancied it so I got some tubs of left overs out if the freezer.... mostly curry so I mackled together a meal from those...
went up the garden to veg patch... more courgettes in a day or two and I picked a large bowl of very large raspberries.... lettuce all coming up now... not sure we need that many now but didn't have heart to say anything... have to use them in sandwiches!
Watched couple episodes of The Crown...
Messaged daughter and we're  going to do story time in the morning at 10am with youngest which will be lovely, he starts school on Monday so last chance really... miss not seeing them but hope we can soon.
Can't believe how San Francisco is looking with all the fires in California... one woman described it as apocalyptic.... dark and red sky at 11am! Must be dreadful poor folk.
That's it for today not very exciting... tomorrow will be lots of sewing I expect!

Such busy people and lovely walks to read about.Thankyou.
Second son ( moved due to neighbours) has two cats, one Ditsy is a Burmese but very dainty.Neither cat strays not even when taken in holiday to very rural Wales.
However Ditsy has been missing for a day and night.
Son thinks she has some form of dementia(aged 15 but looks  like  a young cat) as she cries incessantly ,even with food and water and tray available .
He is worries she has strayed and become confused.
She normally responds to a whistle ,but not this time.
All usual measures taken and hopefully some helpful response.

Well folks you know the saga of nasty neighbour, well all work has ceased  on the extension, seemingly there have been objections and two inspectors have been.
In addition they revealed the extension  had  been built over a gas main ,which must be kept clear  for any essential work !
It has gone beyond the plan submitted to neighbours .
So , I have just sat back and done nothing ,not wishing to stir things up, make things worse etc and he has been hoist with his own petard!
I do worry he might think I have had a hand in it but I honestly have not.
I suspect people’s mental health if they seek revenge .
In addition a neighbour with CCTV cameras trained on his car and the street
told me my son was only three minutes that day and was just about 18” over
the dipped kerb, but the bit that slopes from the proper height to the low part. Some 18” ,not over the full dipped part at all.
.Nasty neighbour’s wife is a very verbal, aggressive person, but not with him!
It has been noticed how meek and subservient she is .
He comes home and she directs him into the dropped kerb parking which if other vehicles are also parked is a bit of a squeeze, honestly, he then will get out and rage at her if the back end is six inches from the dip and the front
three ,! Repeat procedure until perfect.
He storms in and she carries all his tools in !
Oh well it is their life but guess who have not observed social distancing etc!

Funny weather ,dull and cold but sky looks a bit brighter than earlier.
Could do with an “Indian Summer” for the garden work.
Someone posted re bulb planting, do you know that was a wake up call!
Gosh it has come so quickly.

I will bake a cherry almond traybake ,not much chance of
cherries sinking  in that!
Actually a Bakewell tart tray bake would be nice too ,hmm, I will have a cuppa and think about it!

No plans for the weekend except stay at home, garden weather permitting ...otherwise look at what bulbs I stored and what I need to buy.
Must order some fibre as I plant some in biggish pots to put among the borders and can easily put annuals in when bulb pots over.
Salmon for Sunday  tea ,new pots ,peas ,broccoli and a lemon butter and parsley sauce.
Pud? well, ought to be yoghurt but, if I bake I will give nice neighbours each a good part so I  can’t eat much .
No will power you see.

Keep well folks and keep your stories coming ,it is like legalised eaves dropping ,without any guilt!
It is not that I am nosey ,I just like to know what is going on!
Cheerio.
Viktoria.

Hope you are all well.

Woke to another cloud/sun day but still feeling warm.   In the afternoon I worked outside again on trimming back car park edging and completed it in 3 hours.   Job well done and really does look so much better now and lots of favourable comments from neighbours and passers by.

Aside from that, not much to report.

Had Chicken Hotpoint and vegetables for dinner followed by tiramisu together with a glass of rose wine (felt I deserved it).   Watched some NCIS repeats (do love that programme) and continued with my knitting.   Just final front to do now and then do it all again for the 2nd twin.

Might seem a daft question but, with children counted in 'group of 6' from Monday, if I was to visit my nephews family in garden (as I have done earlier) will it be okay if one of them (probably one of the adults) stays indoors as they have 4 daughters and are a '6' on their own?  It's becoming so confusing to me now.

I am totally confused ( it does not take much), so in effect am still in lockdown.
I can hardly believe we are at bulb planting time again as a poster reminded us.
Might send off for some .
I am going to live off the freezer as far as possible and then start anew .
So ice cream and chips, frozen milk and peas. Half roasted potatoes and smoked salmon ,fish pie and cream, cheese and onion pie and Mediterranean
rice ,the possibilities are endless!
No Inspector Morse tonight , Frost instead, whilst the storylines are good he is not up there as far as blue eyes go!
None of my children have blue eyes  eldest  brown, middle hazel, youngest brown .Middle one had blue eyes until two but always a hazel wedge shape, like a slice of pie in his left eye which gradually and the right became hazel.
It amazes me if my daughter wears any greens in the pistachio / olive range how her her eyes become green.
Reflection I imagine.
An omelette and salad for tea I think, yoghurt  for pud.
Must book my flu injection .
Got a reminder .
Not much happening ,but some would think that a blessing.
I keep thinking of the relatives of the victims of the Manchester Arena bombing ,
Such harrowing details and it is hard to hear that our wonderful emergency services seemed lacking for many and varied reasons that night .
But ultimately there is really only one who can be  blamed -the bomber.

Hope tomorrow is as has been promised weather wise .
Warmer and some sunshine .
Cheerio, take care everyone.
Viktoria.

My Viktoria you lead such an interesting life with all your chat about your nasty neighbours building work.... sounds like it's a good thing someone's put a stop to it... serves him right, he sounds a proper bully and the wife too when he's not around!
Sorry to hear about your sons cat ... hope it turns up quite distressing when they get to that sort of age... our neighbours ( noisy bin neighbours) cat was 22 when she died... long life she was very deaf in later years.
It's very easy to get confused with all these new rules that seem to alter from day to day... it doesn't help that the other parts... Wales, Scotland N. Ireland all seem to have their own versions too!
I love the sound of your cherry almond traybake... delicious..
Looks like we're going to get BBQ weather here by Sunday...hooray

Annette - how satisfied you must feel after all your hard work in the grounds of your flats, you've certainly been at it over the last few days...
Glad the knitting going well, I read that knitting is very therapeutic, helps with the memory and currently is the top past time! I knit most nights, cardis and baby blankets for our local hospital or refuge.

Caroline, your good hearted work seems to be turning into a full time employment! If you enjoy though it makes it doubly worthwhile. Hope your hands don't end up sore.

Viktoria, your neighbour sounds such a bully, what a dreadful man. And an idiot too, fancy building over a gas main! Well they'll make him demolish that and serves him right.
Re the bulb planting, I read in a gardening magazine that such things as daffodils respond well to planting now but not tulips, they need to be planted a bit later.
Love your comment about legalised eavesdropping!  ;D

Annette, well done on completing the gardening, nice that the neighbours are appreciative. Re your question, I'm sure the arrangement you mention would be okay and actually, who would know about it?  ;)

Don’t do it now but for  a long time our ladies’ group at church knitted little hats to keep Prem  babies warm.
Then pretty little white squares that ended up like three corned envelopes ,we trimmed them with lace and threaded  ribbon through abd they were tiny  shrouds for really prem babies .Heartbreaking .
The little lambs were smaller than our hands .
They would be put in the little pockets ,given to the parents to hold and when they could bear to they  folded the top corner over, tied the ribbon and the baby  was in its little shroud.

Things have changed so much ,in former times the mother never saw  the  baby and they were told to try to forget,as if they could !
Now grieving is recognised as very necessary .
Sorry a sad note  to end on
But I have worked on a premature baby unit and those who were too young
to survive and those still born were cared for as a living baby would be.
Bathed ,gently dried ,wrapped and cried over by us , and had tenderness and some respect.
Viktoria.

Oh Viktoria that's really sad, but such an amazing thing to be involved with... must have broken your heart...
I made some cardis for prem babies... they looked more like the ones I knitted for daughters dolls!
It a very spiritual thing to provide items for these little souls and really makes you think about how those grieving parents must feel. To make these bits is a real privilege too...
