Title: CONSETT.Looking for burial plot with no headstone
Post by: Donnamarie88 on Tuesday 15 September 20 02:07 BST (UK)
Hi i was wondering if anybody could help me i have looked constantly for over a week now and have literally got nowhere.
Im looking for a grave for my friends mam, Ann marie Ryan born 26 Dec 1955, died June 2001
Why can't I find any sort of record of her death or plot details. I know it has no headstone so be useless to just turn up at cemetery and look for her grave, also there is about 5-6 cemeterys in Consett. Is there any sort of way I could get access to records of where she will be buried. Ive tried find a grave and have literally got nowhere..
If anyone could please help get me on the right tracks be really appreciated.
Thanks you

Do you have an exact date of death and where she was living at the time of her death?

That information should enable you to work out the nearest cemetery to contact so they can check their records for her.  They will need as much information as possible.  Hopefully a plot number can be found and a map of where to find her  :)

Hi donnamarie88, welcome to Rootschat  :)

Is it definitely a burial rather than a cremation?

If a burial, Blackhill is a strong possibility. Have you contacted them? Unfortunately the online records don'e seem to up to 2001.

The numbers are part of the General Record Office indexing system.
You would use them if you were to order the death certificate.

They don’t have any relevance to the burial.

If she was definitely buried in Consett I would certainly start with Blackhill.

Contact the Council if you cannot find what you seek.

https://www.durham.gov.uk/article/2239/Search-burial-records

A fee applies for them to search the burial records.

The format of the grave location details is likely to be Section Ref plus a Plot number.

EG my GGP’s are in Non Conformists, Section A plot 1234 in a Bradford cemetery.  Finding a specific grave can be quite a task as the numbering is sometimes not easy to follow.  Hence if you can obtain a graveyard plan it will help.
