william son of richard 1682 denbighshire. but where please ?.
thank you.
-
Something like
Maesyrychen
Which parish is this?
Gadget
-
It's William son to Robert Pritchard not Richard
-
Other entries in that book look like Llantysilio ( maybe Llandysilio ) and Cymo, if that helps.
-
Maes yr Ychen is in Llantysilio as some of my ancestors were from there. The page has mentions of Llangollen as well.
If I recall correctly, it's to the north of Llantysilio and west of the Horseshoe Pass.

Gadget beat you to it!
Pritchardgeo, just in case you missed it, a few pages earlier is the burial entry for Robert Pritchard's son, Richard (from memory, it was 1681)
-
My 2x great grandparents had a small farm in that Llantysilio township and then they came upon hard times and he was a road labourer when he died.
We used to go on walks from school along the canal to Llantysilio, whee the Llangollen canal starts :)
-
Although baptisms were rarely performed in the parish church, here's a small version pic of Llantysilio church that I took in about 2005
-
Gadget, I was just looking up the church! You read my mind!
Would it be the same church being discussed here? https://historypoints.org/index.php?page=llantysilio-church-llangollen
-
Yes, I would think so. I've not been in there but I know the area well. The church is just below the road. We used to walk up to Valle Crucis as well - one of our teachers was fond of walking. Also , we learnt of the destruction of the Abbeys by Henry Vlll that way :)
One of my Burgess cousins (removed) was policeman there in the late 19th century. He would probably have known my Jones line :)
PS - forgot to say that Maes yr ychen means field of the oxen - maes = field and ych = ox ychen = oxen
-
thank you both, i would never have figured that one out. i have been in the churchyard though looking for possible ancestors but that was a while back !. thank you again great help.loads of Joneses too !.brian
-
sorry.but also this one now. but on the transaction on f.m.p it says gresford ? its jan 29th 1682

-
I think it says Allington which, from memory is in Gresford.

My wife has Burgess who lived just south of the Horseshoe Pass a few houses from a school. That was in the early 70's so I don't remember much.

Was this 1970 ? If so it's unlikely to be the same branch. Many moved to Canada/USA before then and others were nearer Rhyl. They originated in Kirkcudbrightshire and moved down to North Wales in the 1830s.

its a very nice area i really like it there, but i imagine times were very hard then.thank you.brian
