Yesterday,  Friday 21st,  whilst minding my own business at the library,  I stumbled upon a course being run as part of Adult Learners week.  Family History on the Internet,  it was already full or I would have joined to pick up any tips,  and stray potential Rootschatters.   ;D

As I was unaware of the course I did not have a pile of leaflets with me,  but a friendly librarian signed me onto a nearby computer so I could earwig.

When the course ended,  and the tutor had departed,  I hung around and spread the Rootschat message.  So if you met a rather pushy woman at this course and have joined Rootschat as a result,  let us know.  :D

I also haven't put up any posters but I have recommended Rootschat to all my contacts with a genealogy interest and will continue to do so.  I know for sure that three people have registered and I suspect others have or will.

I,m just bumping this up again so our new members see it.

I've added a sig file to my outlook express and Hotmail emails that contain Rootschat URL.  It's an ideal way advertise and costs nothing.

If anyone is unsure how to do this just ask on the Technical Board and someone will be more than happy to explain it.

What I've done - two things:

1.  I've spoken enthusiastically about Rootschat to the local University of the Third Age Genealogy Group to which I belong, and I think a couple of people have signed up.

2.  I have put a message on my webpage extolling the virtues of Rootschat, as well as the little Rootschat counter Trystan helped me with, so anyone visiting the page will hopefully get the message!

I am a member of a MyFamily.com Admins Site (USA) which has over 1200 members, some in NZ, Aust, UK, Canada, Turkey and other places and I have told all of them to join RootsChat.com  ~~ Also, I have told all my members in my Alumni / Friends Site (a worldwide Site)  about it and asked everyone to join.

I also have three Genealogy 'Private' Sites in MyFamily.com and told all members to join, About 90 of them. So that should most certainly spread the good word.

How about that ?

Good work Admin.  Bill.

I have advised our local family history group, the Queensland Family History Society, of Rootschat.
You may wish to check out their two very positive responses by going to the following website:

www.qfhs.org.au

Once in the site go to "Happenings"
then down to "Snippets"
Firstly check out Item 28 in the May 2005 Snippets newsletter and then
Check Item 27 in the June 2005 newsletter

They were very impressed with the site and so they should be.

GREAT WORK !!!!!
Regards
Christmack

PS I have also notified 2 other Societies.

Will be posting it at the Genealogy displays at the descendants reunion for the families of Red River Settlers in the fur trade era... August 2005.  The event is  to be held in Manitoba, Canada... It will attract people from all over Canada and the U.S. ...We even have a couple coming from the Netherlands!  Many of the original settlers were from Scotland...(many from the Orkneys), and England & Ireland as well.
Those at the reunion who want to go right back to u.K. / Irish roots will be thrilled to be armed with rootschat!

Here's the link, if I may tout the event....http://www.redriverdescendantsreunion.org/

I have also added a link to rootschat onto the website above, on the Genealogy page!!!! It's a popular site, so if you want to post a welcome to Red River Descendants...I am sure many will come in following my link.... It deserves the popularity

I'll see about putting one on the company Intranet, one of the largest in the UK.

If they let me, they don't like commercial things going on, but this isn't commercial.

it's a very large company all over the UK

Interesting to note that a lot of the "originals" who took posters etc. don't seem to be particularly active on Rootschat.  Perhaps they found what they were looking for, or perhaps they are too busy with other things.
