They normally offer existing subscribers a discount when they renew have you not received an offer this year

Instead of 159.99 pounds they said I could renew for 135.99 pounds. I was looking for a discount subscription like I got in 2019.

Hopefully then someone will find you a better offer.  I don't tend to look for alternative offers as I have a sub that they no longer offer that includes newspapers so is good value for me.

Wait, what?

They don't include the newspaper any more?!

EDIT: only included on "Pro".

I have just checked and find my sub expires in 3 days, and auto-renew is on. I cannot find much information about current subs, they used to have a chart showing exactly what was included in which sub. It looks as if I got a good deal last year, but I can't remember how! Should I turn off auto renew and hope they will contact me?

It says

For annual members, having your subscription set to auto-renew is the best way to ensure you take advantage of our unbeatable loyalty discount upon renewal“

So I don’t know if you would get cheaper by turning it off or not

I will leave it for a day or two, and hope to hear something.

To semi-quote Mandy Rice-Davies "they would say that, wouldn't they"  ;D

I also took advantage of the half-price offer in 2019 and switched the auto-renew off straight away.  I have been receiving messages off them recently to turn auto-renew back on as my membership was about to expire.  Since my membership finished a few days ago I have been offered a 15% reduction to renew and then yesterday another offer of a 30% discount, so it's probably worth cancelling for a few days.

Thank you for letting us know about this.
My membership finishes today and I  have turned auto-renew off and I hope  I get the offer off 30% discount in a few days.

I will try that too! (That is if I can find my way into the account - I had some difficulty last night.)

I have Pro World and my sub is about £15 to £20 a year less than the full sub without loyalty discount.

Not sure if this rather long link will work for the 30% off once your present membership has finished.  The offer expires on 13th October.

I let my sub expire yesterday.

Did anyone manage to get a better deal than auto renewing?

Cheers

That worked for me, and saved me money compared with the "loyalty bonus"

Thank you!

Good to hear that the link also worked for you Norma.  I waited to see if they offered any more than the 30%.  A reminder today offered the same 30% discount, so thought I had better renew before I missed it, so have just renewed the 12 months Pro subscription myself  ;)

Which library is that?
My library (Oxfordshire) is giving home access to Ancestry, but not to Find My Past.

Thanks for the tip.  My county library is giving free access to ancestry but ancestry is only offering free access to the county records.

Free access is given to all of findmypast records and I've spent a couple of hours enjoying some success.

My local town library webpage links to the Lancashire county library.

There's quite a palaver getting to the appropriate webpage that gives links to ancestry and FindMyPast.

Here's the link :-

Thanks .... I see anyone can join the library but alas, it looks as though access to subscription services is only available to county residents.
