A possibility?

September 1692 at Trevalga
2 children, son and daughter baptised. Forenames illegible.
Parents: John & Ann Garland

Thanks.

Trevalga is a long way from St Agnes (30+ miles) and without first names it's impossible to make a connection. At least, it's a GARLAND baptism at roughly the right time - I've had difficulty finding any instances of the name in that era.

Looking at baptisms on Cornwall OPC, I have found 308 between 1700 and 1770!

But the only 2 Peter Garland I find are in 1742 and 1749!

Perhaps he wasn't born in Cornwall?

there's a marriage 27 Nov 1680 in St Agnes for a R(ichar)d Garlande. Cleric was not in the habit of recording the name of the bride.

http://www.rootschat.com/links/01pws/

There is a burial 5 June 1732 for Mary Garland, wife of Richd

A son also named Richard was buried 1 June 1690 and a son John baptised 19 April 1690.

Peter's first son, Richard, baptised 19 Aug 1728.

A suggestion anyway, the baptism could be hiding in one of the unclear pages in the late 1690s.

Thanks both.

I have the 1742 baptism, and it's his father, who married in 1727, is the Peter I'm seeking.

I've looked for him in Devon without success.

'Richard' is very much a family name.

The 1680 marriage must be linked, but if the bride was the 'Mary' who died in 1732 she must have been in her seventies, so unlikely to have been the mother of Peter.

there could be another generation in between. I was trying to show that there were Garlands in the parish even though baptisms might not have been transcribed.

You could search the register on FamilySearch

Osprey,

That was certainly how I understood your post, and I apologize if my reply appeared in any way critical. I had been looking for evidence of the GARLAND name in and around St Agnes and I was grateful to receive your confirmation of the family's existence. Your input was most welcome.

There is a marriage in St Agnes on 28th August 1708 between

the first name of the bride is Sidwell and the groom's surname is Michall. Possible burial for her in St Agnes 5 June 1751 - Sidwel Michel, wife of Philip.

Many thanks - my wildest guesses were nowhere near!

The scarcity of entries in the GARLAND and MEAN(e) names leads me to believe that the two families were based outside St Agnes. I've trawled through the link you provided and only found one additional  instance of each name.

My eyes are on stalks. I'm reminded of the hours spent in county record offices peering into microfiche and film readers!
