The 1841 census for Lidlington village is attached. The top name is William Wright and I know he was a schoolmaster. The faintly written word in the census looks to be that word. Next is his wife, Martha, and then their son, William, who was also a schoolmaster (on his 1842 marriage certificate) but the word doesn't look the same as for his father. I think it could be 'teacher' ??
All the names below seem to be schoolchildren/pupils and written down as scholars?
Thank you!

Could it be 'School Do'. Do being ditto. The surname has also been transcribed as 'Do'
-
I agree with Rosie.
-
It’s the same for the 15 year old Evan Davies, under the son.

Not sure this makes it any clearer?
-
Yes I can see the 'Do' and understand that to mean ditto. But, William (the son) is 25 years old and Evan and the others listed are 15 years old. William, the son, could be working as a schoolmaster/teacher but Evan and the others can't and it seems unlikely William, the son, is a scholar.
I think this may be another case of enumerator error and I'll have to apply logic and what I know from later information/census.

Consider that at this time it was a system of pupil-teacher used for training teachers. It also provided free staff.

I don't think that it says School 'Do' after Evan. It looks as though it starts with an A, could it be short for Assistant. He and the others are a separate household to the Wright family
-
Yes, I could see that the Wrights were a household of three and then another household starting with Evan Davies but I was assuming that the Wrights were counting their home and Evan Davies etc. were the school counting as another 'household'.
-
What are your thoughts on Evan's occupation
-
I would say the word for Evan's occupation is the same word as for William above him. And, I've just noticed everyone below Evan is female which would suggest a girl's school and, maybe, Evan is a teacher and his age of 15 is an error.
So, William Wright is 50 and head of the school and household. His wife is 50 and their son, William, is a schoolteacher aged 25 with Evan Davies also a schoolteacher and then a list of female scholars?
-
This is the 1841 census and ages of people over 15 are rounded down to a multiple of 5 usually. Therefore Evan may have been anywhere between 15 and 19 years of age. I think the occupations of William and Evan are "School Do" ie School Master.

The 'rounding' would explain the very neatness of William and Martha both being exactly 50 and their son being a neat 25.

Here is an Evan Davies, who is a school master, in 1851:
