Title: Three sisters disappeared - Allen, Wells-next-the-Sea
Post by: ruthruss on Friday 02 October 20 11:10 BST (UK)
Hi everyone. The sea-faring family of Thomas Allen and Mary Pentin of Wells (married 1775) produced 5 boys who all worked at sea, and three daughters: Susanna (b1788), Bett/Bell (b1792) and Charlotte (b1794). I have searched and searched, but can't find out anything about the daughters. No marriage or death. Thought for sure that Bett/Bell being a more unusual name might produce something, but no. Anyone else want to have a crack?

Wonder if Bett/Bell might be the Bella Allen in the 1841 census in Westmoreland (female servant). That's all I've got. Have attached her baptism record for the name.

Susanna may have married James BAMBRIDGE 18 Jan 1817 Wells
Although on Census born c 1795
Age out but maybe dropped a few years as spouse was younger?

This one I'm pretty sure of;
Marriage 7 Oct 1817 Hickling
Charlotte ALLEN to George GIBBS

Children of George/Charlotte
GEORGIANA Gibbs bapt 8 Mar 1818
MAR** Gibbs 1 Oct 1820

Geogiana may have married James BURTON 19 Jul 1836

Burial there 26 May 1822 of CHARLOTTE Gibbs age 29 (1793***)

All above on FreeREG

Trish :)

Let me know what you think after you have checked.
As I said Charlottes info looks correct, Susanna just likely :)

Interestingly, a while back I thought Susanna had married James Bambridge but then had put a big NO through my research. Unfortunately I didnt put an explanation so I have no memory of why I decided against it! Helps to take better research notes doesn't it. But I think you are correct with Charlotte marrying George Gibbs. Sad that he never remarried and ended up in the workhouse.

Done a little more research and I think we can rule out that Susanna.
FreeREG has a Susanna Allen Bapt 1795 Wells to William/Siusanna Allen ( Mother nee Faircloth)

So back to the drawing board :P
