John William Mason 781417 born 19/6/08 attested for the Royal Artillery in Macclesfield 30 April 1928. Transferred to Army Reserve in 1935. Discharged in 1946. (per Royal Artillery Attestations)
His records will be with the MoD and you can apply for a copy. https://www.gov.uk/get-copy-military-service-records/apply-for-someone-elses-records

Thanks for that. Do you know where I might find information on the unit in India?

Can't help with India 1929 but Ancestry has a WW2 Tracer card for him https://www.ancestry.co.uk/imageviewer/collections/61820/images/61820_006916_0073-00460

A Mention in recognition of gallant and distinguished services in Burma https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/37184/supplement/3748

On the tracer card there is an entry which looks like X hiot (11): India. Do you have any idea what this may mean?

I read it as X list (II) India
Further down there is X list (IV) India

X list entries record when a man is away from his unit for a period. X ii is when a man is sick usually in hospital (in his case for four days). X iv is when he is awaiting posting (in his case movement back to UK in Apr 45).
Apart from getting his records which may include his earlier service , you could try the RA Museum at Larkhill which in more normal times would look up what they have on 23 Field Brigade in India but Covid isn't helping:

For WW2 the war diaries are here:http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/results/r?_aq=160%20field%20regiment%20artillery&_cr=WO%20172&_dss=range&_ro=any&_st=adv
Not digitised though.
