So cool, thank you all so much, I appreciate it. This ship, the Flatholm, went on the rocks at Shoal Bay on the southern shore of the Avalon Peninsula of Newfoundland just south of Petty Harbour in November of 1950 in a heavy fog. All hands escaped the ship and were picked up from a lifeboat further south at Bay Bulls by some fishermen from there. I live just few miles from where this ship eventually sank. Cheers, Leonard

Another little bit of info on the Flatholm I thought might be interesting. She was built by Cochrane & Sons Shipbuilders Ltd., Shelby and was owned by Neale & West Ltd., Cardiff. She was built in 1949 and I think this was her maiden run across the Atlantic heading to a fishing company in Halifax, Nova Scotia and had a crew of 16. Captain R. A. Winn was the skipper. Cheers, Leonard

Don’t know what you mean by WELCH japeflakes. It’s on the rocks in Newfoundland and came from England.

WELSH..  I was guessing CF on the vessel might have been Cardiff in Wales...

Ok I’m not familiar with the UK. Yes the ship was owned by Neale and West Ltd., Cardiff so that’s the reason for the CF? Builder was Cochrane & Sons Shipbuilders Ltd., Shelby.

No problem:  Was the ship builder from Selby, Yorkshire?
