Evening everyone,
Hope you can help.
I am looking for someone called “Sam Smith”
Apparently he died in/near Hythe between 1960-1975
A family member remembers going to the funeral with her mother.
I have looked everyone and just coming to a brick wall.
He might have had two children
Jean and Peggy (Who apparently run off with her boss Ron Richardson, this apparently made national newspaper but again brick wall)
Sam had a sister called Eva smith and due to something or other they was separated.
Mum was leonora smith nee Carmichael
Sam was born in London I believe

I can't find Sam (yet) however, Eva Selina Frances SMITH birth registered St Olive Southwark (1d/201) March qtr 1891, mother's maiden name CARMICHAEL. She married Frederick Frank BOWDEN in 1912 at St Mary, Newington and says father's name was William, a dockworker.
This tallies with Leonora Ann CARMICHAEL married William John C SMITH at Lambeth (1d/591) March qtr 1888.
Other possible children:
Herbert William Mar qtr 1890 (Lambeth 1d/539)
Florence Cook Dec qtr 1893 (Camberwell 1d/861) [died Poplar 1c/127, Jun qtr 1895]
Horace John Mar qtr 1897 (Poplar 1c/691)
-
Another possible child (I suspect is Leonora not Leonard, is female according to GRO)
SMITH, LEONARD JANE CARMICHAEL
1888 J Quarter in LAMBETH Volume 01D Page 528
Baptism 11 July 1888
Father William John a Machinist. Mother Leonora
Address 156 Ferndale Road, Brixton
-
Eva Selina Frances baptism 26 Jan 1898 same church as Leonora Jane
Address 1 Elliot Rd
William is a plumber
-
Herbert William Smith 1890
Had, according to a tree on Ancestry 4 children, one of whom was Margaret (Peggy?) Edna May
another who was Jeanne Patrica Ruth.
So perhaps Herbert = Sam?
Death 1978 Shepway, (again according to the tree)

Well done Mckha, that does look possible. They are hard to find on the censuses!
-
We cannot give details of 1939 register on rootschat, but it is worth looking for Margaret on it.
Her dob given on the tree was 30 Oct 1919
