Billy -- thank you SO very much for that link. Way back - that used to be mine and my hubbie's  'song'.  I have no idea why - neither of us were Spanish - but we both loved it -- at that time it was the Al Martino version.

I haven't heard it for years - so that was such a lovely reminder of those days.

I`m just having a little listen to number 29 My Sweet Lord. I`ve got out of the running order !!

I`ll probably bore everyone going on about it ! We`re back in lockdown from Friday evening so I`ll need something to cheer me up !!

Pennines, next to Billy, Raul Malo has become my favourite. It`s a pity we don`t see him here in the UK.

He's certainly a lovely singer - and with some great songs - I have to confess though, I have never heard of him before you introduced him on here, Billy.

Neil Diamond is now my favourite and has been for years -- saw him in Birmingham ages ago - and then at Manchester (MEN) in 2010. I was a bit worried as he was getting on a bit by then -- but he was fantastic.

I think some of the older singers get better with age, unfortunately some should have given up years ago!! This from someone who can`t sing a note !!

Just had an hour listening to them and then (as you do) going off to listen to one or two others. He is great - we loved his singing, his attitude and his neckwear  :)

Paul McCartney ought to have retired long ago.
So too Engelbert Humperdink .
Tom Jones was not bad at all the last time I heard him.
It is not as if they need the money!
You wonder how others  would  have fared .
Like Kelly the totally unaffected singer with The Dubliners ,wonder how he
would have aged.?
Only in his forties when he died from a brain tumour .
Some people you cannot imagine ageing .

I liked the fact that you loved his neckwear, Heywood! That made me laugh.

It’s my husband- he loved the scarves and cravats.  :D
I sent it to my family and got a message that my 11 yr old grandson was very embarrassed at his mother’s singing, dancing and arm waving To ‘Sweet Caroline’. They were the only two in the room  ;D

Oh my goodness -- this thread is causing me to remember some of my favourite songs from times gone by.

Don McLean - American Pie and others
Roy Orbison - most of his - fantastic voice
Righteous Brothers - Unchained Melody

and lots, lots more! I expect YouTube has become really busy this year --- and how wonderful that you can just go onto that site and bring back memories.

"Unchained Melody" has to be Jimmy Young  :)

Pat Boone, Everly Brothers, Ricky Nelson, and how about Bill Haley & The Comets.  ;D

BumbleB -- you've got me going again!!

Yes - Everly Brothers

Simon and Garfunkel

Scott McKenzie -San Francisco

Roberta Flack - First time ever I saw your face

Oh dear I'm going to be like this all day now. It's BillyF's fault for starting this.

Yes, you`re right ! Loved him from age 13, now 75!!!

Thanks Pennines!! It passes the time when it`s so wet !!

Also liked the Everly brothers and Roy Oribson, who I saw live in the mid 60s.

Tom Jones was the one I was thinking of who`s got better.

"The first time ever I saw your face."

In the last few minutes I`ve found myself listening Paul Anka, he`s 79 now, wonder what he sounds like today ?

Billy -- I have just listened to that version all the way through and it literally brought tears to my eyes. His expression, demeanor - voice -- it was beautiful. Thank you so much for the link.

Its hard to say what is my favorite song from way back when but I do like this.  I was 19 when it came out  and was a huge hit in Canada.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYj2hex99gY

My wife is related to this singer.  My wifes great grandmother and her great grandfather were brother and sister.  She had one major hit in Canada but I know she was on British TV for years.  This was her hit over her

I think I was 18 when it came out.

We usually associate Gene Vincent with Be Bop A Lula, bu I was amazed to find this !

Jim -- I take it you are from Canada?

In the UK - your wife's relative was VERY famous indeed! Had loads of hits - and then presented TV shows! A wow of a relative.

Billy -- I agree I never knew Gene Vincent sang that particular song either.

(It's been a tuneful day).

EDIT -- I've just remembered the name of one of the groups I used to love -- my aging brain could not bring it to mind --- Smokie --- I just loved all their songs.

Yes we are in Winnipeg where we had our first snowfall last night that looks like its here to stay.
I knew Cila Black was a British Icon and I think the reason she did not have a huge number of hits in Canada/US  was Dionne Warwick was singing many of the same songs and she was getting the hit in North America.  An example was Anyone who had a heart.

Cilla Black was underestimated in my opinion. As for Dionne warwick - not my cup of tea at all.

Here in Wales we`re halfway through or firebreak. Last week was so miserable, it never seemed to stop raining!

Looking for something different to cheer myself up I came across this , another of my favourite sings.

I don`t know who Sarah Collins is, I just wish I could sing!!

My way-back favourite was Noel Harrison (Rex Harrison's son?) "singing" the theme from the "Thomas Crown Affair"
("Round, like a circle in a spiral,
like a wheel within a wheel etc.")
Absolutely no idea, but I can detect it being played at the softest volume, in a tiny fragment, anywhere.
Oddly, same with "Eye Level", was it? The original "Van der Valk" signature tune?

Strange how a tune can get you!!!

Mine is Halfway to Paradise. A few years ago, I`d just managed to put it as a ringtone on my phone. The day after I was queueing in the bank when I heard the first few notes; my first thought was the bank had a radio playing!! Then I remembered !!! ::)

BillyF --- I would have been shocked if your special tune was anything BUT 'Halfway to Paradise' -- in view of your allegiance since youth with Billy Fury. I loved that also -- and him.

Funnily enough I must have recorded 'Sounds of the 60s' sometime and I started watching it last night;

Sandie Shaw (never liked her)
Dusty Springfield
Long John Baldry (whom I had completely forgotten about)
Lulu
Tom Jones

I still have the rest to watch. Those were the days when music had a melody - and often a beat.

In all honesty though, I am a Country and Western fan -- also a fan of Irish Music. I just love Danny Boy - although it always brings tears to my eyes. A Scottish Pipe Band has the same effect!

Pennines, I hadn`t read your last post until now. How strange that you mention Long John Baldry, my husband and I were only talking about him yesterday !!

Yes -- it's so odd that coincidental things like that happen. A person you haven't seen for ages will pop into your head -- and then you will suddenly see them!

(Whether you recognise them these days with a mask on is a different matter!!)
