Hi ,
I am looking for any more information for a James Francis Byrne.
James I am told was born in New York. His WW1 draft registration gives his date of birth as 29 May 1881. His wife's name is Helen. We think she was Helen Hicks possible marriage 1912 but not confirmed.
I can see them in the 1920 census but nothing else.
can anyone see them anywhere?
Thanks,
bswinno.

This looks like the death of their infant daughter in 1922. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:2W2G-HDG The WWI draft card gives the address as 103 Jackson Ave., which is what seems to be on this record.

1920 census shows same address as WW1 draft
James Byrne 39 Head

William's WWII draft card (7 Jan. 1941) gives his address as 61-38 164th St. Flushing, NY. The person who would always know his address was his aunt Mrs. Margaret Kruse, 150-42 Coolidge Ave., Jamaica, NY. William was unemployed. He was 5'9" tall, 165 lbs., blue eyes, brown hair, light complexion.

According to Ellen/Helen/Nellie's death record in 1922 she was buried at Holy Name Cemetery in Jersey City, N. J. She was probably buried with her mother Josephine, who died in 1895.

This would be the family in 1900 living in New Jersey.

By 1910 the family is in Manhattan, NY. They are all living with Helen's married sister Margaret, except Helen/Nellie.

I thank you all,
As usual the wonderful people on this site have triumphed again.
But two things still elude us the baptisim of James Francis Byrne, which would give us his parents and his marriage to Ellen Hicks.
As we now know they were Catholic would this hinder research?
Thanks,
bswinno.

There's a marriage for a James Byrne & Ellen Hicks in New Jersey in 1918. Certificate number is 05228. I don't think NJ marriages from that time frame are online anywhere.
-
interesting shellyesq I will take a look around.
thanks,
bswinno.
-
There's also an entry with the same certificate number and year for Ellen Murphy & James Byrne, so perhaps it was Ellen's 2nd marriage.
-
shellyesq when you say the same certificate number what is that referring to?
Did you notice the two children shown in the 1920 census would have been born before 1918?
-
The certificate number for their marriage on the New Jersey index.
-
William and Margaret were in the 1925 NY state census and the 1930 & 1940 census with aunt Margaret Kruse. However, the younger Margaret was listed as Margaret Murphy, so I guess she was from Ellen's 1st marriage.
1925 - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KSCV-L44
1930 - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X453-WKJ
1940 - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KQP3-BC2
William was in the National Guard in 1939-1940 - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QVJY-N2GL
-
I wonder if this might be Ellen/Helen/Nellie with her 1st husband in 1910. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M59Y-PG1
Looks like this William might have died in 1912 - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:2WNW-2H3 , so that would fit with the daughter born circa 1911 and Ellen being free to remarry in 1918.
-
Wow shellyesq that's some researching you have turned up.
I congratulate and thank you on your expertise.
I notice on that 1910 census for William and Nellie Murphy that they had been married 14 years.
Had six children but none living.
Also that he just missed out on the birth of daughter Margaret
Thanks,
bswinno.
-
If it's them, the 14 years is probably wrong, since she was with her family in 1900.
-
Do you have a set of parents that you hope this James might belong to? Any siblings of James that might help lead us to him later?
-
Thats the problem shellyesq nothing more is known about him
Would his marriage certificate give us both parents names or just the father?
-
I would expect it would have the parents' names. I just Googled for an image of a random New Jersey marriage certificate from that era, and it had both names. http://lynnsfamilytree.com/dabhwm.html
Listing just the father's name seems to be more of a British thing.
