I have James Middleton c1837 - father John Middleton and mother Hannah Stanley - living with his parents on the 1861 census. After that I cannot find him at all. I have tried deaths, but nothing shows up. The only thing I could find was a marriage to Mary Ann Hayes, but that was is 1858 with a father called Samuel, so I have ruled that one out. Can anyone help please?

Is he the one with widowed mother Hannah, and younger siblings, on 1861?

sorry - Am I misinterpreting this
You say you have him on 1961 with his parents John & Hannah but also he is the one on 1861 posted by lizdb with his widowed mother?
How have you found his mother was Hannah Stanley?

John and Hannah, with a largish family , can be seen on earlier censuses. They seem to have married 1819.
By 1861 Hannah is widowed. She has 33 yr old dtr Hannah with her, "our" James and youngest son Thomas (bn 1840ish) and a further child George age 8, but given her age of 67 one would think he must rightly be a grandchild.
James is recorded as unmarried.
By 1871 he isnt with widowed mum, nor is he with unmarried sister.

lizdb, I have that information, but I cannot find him after that - no death or anything. Don't know where to look now.

Lancsann, that could very well be him, but I cannot find him after that. Middleton must be a popular name in and around Manchester which is probably why I am having trouble with him. I think I shall have to put him to bed and try and find something more later. Thanks everyone.
