Florence married Ernest Howald in Bristol in 1903.
Her birthplace was given as Bradford on Avon c 1885 on census in 1911 but I can find no birth records.
Can anyone help please?

I think the way forward is to purchase a copy of the marriage certificate. This should give her father's name and determine if COLLETT was her maiden name or if she had been previously married.

Looks like she is illegitimate daughter of Ellen Collett.

Not necessarily Ellen’s. The Colletts had older daughters.

I am doing this research on behalf of my cousin's wife who is the granddaughter of Florence and have obviously suggested a marriage certificate is wanted.However there are Smale/Collett connections which are odd.
In the 1911 census George Collett-Grandfather and Nellie Smale aged 21 -Sister in Law are with the family.
Presuming Nellie was Ellen I hoped to have found her in Lyncombe ,Bath with her parents and siblings as Ellen H Smale aged 11 born Bath.
Her parents were Thomas Smale born Devon and his wife Mary M Smale born BRADFORD!
This obviously seemed to give a Collett connection and sure enough Thomas married Mary Maria Collett aged 24 on 7/11/1887 IN Lyncombe with her father given as George Henry Collett Bootmaker.
Ellen could be Florence’s mother it seems.

Have you found Florence on the 1901 census? She would have been 16/17.

Ellen Eliza Collett born Dec Q, 1869, Bradford, MMN Walker. If she was the mother, she would only have been 14.

No trace of Florence on 1901 census or her Grandfather George despite numerous searches.I think they are together somewhere but don't seem to be in Bradford on Avon!
Sorry I said Ellen I meant Mary Maria who married Thomas Smale.All her children were born after Florence per census records, so I presume Florence was before she married.Only a thought....
On probate records she was also known as Florence Maud Howald. Died in 1960 aged 77

Have found that Florence and husband Ernest were witnesses to the wedding of Thomas George Smale(known as George) and Fannie Coker in 1910.Almost certain that she is his half sister and Mary Maria is her mother.Have sent for marriage certificate.
Where is she in 1901 though?

Florence's marriage certificate shows her father as George Collett-Warehouseman. Would a guardian be shown as a father?I only ask because her Grandfather was George but he was a shoe maker!

Birth cert states Margaret Florence Emma Collett born 27/9/1883.No father but mother is Marie Maria Collett of 28,White Hill,Bradford.
