Trying to locate a town or village in Staffordshire named Swillinggor, or Willinggor. Referred to in a 1730 Will of Joseph Withers who died in 1761.
He refers to "my good friend Isaac Pedlar Yoeman of Swillinggor, Staffordshire" (or Willinggor); to be his Overseer.
No mention of this place in modern Google maps; wondering if you might know of it?
Thank you
David

The first letter is a "W" - compare it to the first letters of 'John Withers of Birmingham' below.
Where did Joseph Withers live (die)? There's no clue in the clip you posted.
There's a Willenhall in Staffordshire? About 14 miles NW of Birmingham.
Said with a broad accent? :)

Thank you
Joseph lived worked and died in Birmingham.
1761. In fact his wife, son Joseph and daughter all died about same date, Oct 1761. Wife Katherine was described as a widow, she and her daughter died in Astley,? (Is there such a place?) Warwicks.
But Isaac Pedlar from Staffs.

In examining this 1761 Will, I notice that Joseph's wife, Katherine: died 12 July 1761 at Anstey, Warwick, a widow (FamilySearch) and that his "my eldest son Joseph" also died 1 Aug 1761 (FamilySearch) as did Elizabeth Guest, his son Benjamin's wife, who died 13 Oct 1761 (FamilySearch).
Was 1761 a particularly bad year for typhus or cholera etc? Is it possible to detect cause of death from those records, at all?
Thanks

Here I am just checking the name of his wife. I think it is Katherine, what do you think?

Rachell?

Good for me. Thanks

I'd agree it's 'Rachell'.
As to the cause of deaths, have you seen the actual register or are these just transcriptions from Familysearch?
Sometimes the burial register can give cause of death.
Are they at 'Astley' as in your first couple of posts, or at 'Anstey' as in your last post?
-
You're quite right the town is Anstey in Warwickshire.
No I have not yet gone back to check the images; I have relied only on the transcript.
I'll let you know how I get along.

There is mention on various Google family research of the surname PEDLER of Willenhall, also being PEDLEY.

Thank you, Capetown for all of that.
I'll be busy tomorrow in prep for a family funeral. Should be able to get a look see on Tuesday.
Thanks again

I checked the images of the burials at St Martins, Brm - no cause of death given.
It is clear from the large number of burials that something was going on - at least one and sometimes several burials the same day.
Epidemics were common then.
