Heavy rain during the night, lovely sunny day today but much colder too. Was pleased to see my neighbour taking the dog onto the field, he must have been feeling better. Self isolation for him and the rest of the family ended yesterday, I hope his wife is better too.
Went for my walk shortly after that, took a scarf to put round my face if necessary, the cold air doesn't agree with me sometimes. The field was really soggy so walked a bit further along the walkways. Back home, felt a bit unsettled. Got on with a few of those never ending domestic chores then had some lunch.
Have been waiting for something to arrive in the post that I'll be using for the new technique on my Christmas card, it hadn't arrived so I mixed some paints so that I'll be ready when it does arrive. Opened my stay wet palette, haven't used it for some time, it smelt horrible. Gave it a good clean out.
Still no response from my art teacher to my emails, sent a message to my friend L to ask if she'd had a reply to her email, she hadn't. It seems very odd, I hope our teacher is okay. It occurred to me later that maybe she has had a problem with her broadband, she lives out on the moors and it's often unreliable.
My friend ended up phoning me, we were having such a laugh about things related to the art class and about the Portrait Artist programme. Less than an hour after our call ended she sent me a message to say that her brother's test for Covid was positive. I'm so worried for them both. She has had just about everything that life can throw at you this year and now this. I can only hope and pray that he stays well.

Roobarb - So Sorry to hear about your friends brother... I’m sure she must be worried sick about him... keeping fingers crossed it’s only a mild dose...
Shame your art stuff didn’t arrive always frustrating when you’re raring to go! Hope you art teacher able to do the class for you tomorrow...
Woke very early this morning... had a tossing and turning night not helped with the old brain box working overtime... goodness knows why! Read for a while...
got up and dressed as wanted to get to the bakery early for yeast, post office to send styling brush back and butchers for some meat... it was raining on my way there but had dried up by the time I got home...
Just as I walked in the door my daughter FaceTimed us... she chatted to her father while I made a cuppa as I was gasping and I got a bowl of cereal....
It’s always a delight to see her smiling face... although she admitted she’d had a pretty stressful week and was a bit tearful... her dad soon cheered her up and we moved on to lighter subjects... like Christmas... she’s not been able to get any Waitrose slots in her area either for Christmas week.... she’s ordered a Turkey from M & S which she said will either do just for them.. or with us if we’re able to go for the day or if they’re able to come up to us.... so nows the dilemma ..... do I buy one in case we’re on our own, risk waiting until the last minute.... who knows...we were laughing about it in the end...
By the time we’d finished chatting to her it was too late for bread making or we’d be having it for a/noon tea! Luckily I’d got a couple of rolls in the freezer!
Did a bit of cooking, tidying up and then had lunch..
Decided that as it was , what I’d call a typical November day, clear blue sky but with a nip in the air we’d go for a walk...
No dogs to be seen... but they’ve done nothing about the fencing... but it was pleasant to be out... quite bracing and I was glad of the extra layer I’d put under my jacket and I’d worn gloves... first time this year!
Met our friends who were also out for a walk and had a chat with them....
on our return I continued with the Christmas cards... got quite a production line going!
Earlier on this morning had lots of messages flying back and forth as 50 Christmas stockings needed for a group that deals with vulnerable children... by 7th Dec... which is easily doable... Sammys got some fabric so arranged to meet at 5.30 to pick it up... we could buy some cheap duvet covers which I can chop up too...
Dashed of to collect fabric.... left in the porch to isolate for a couple of days...
We had salmon with sliced potatoes layer with mushrooms, onion and peppers grated cheese and creme fraiche poured over and baked in the oven, broccoli spears, asparagus and broad beans...
Amended my Waitrose order again!...
Watched tv...
another busy day!
Good to hear that the Oxford vaccine trials are going well and that it seems more suitable for us more mature people! It would be nice to know when they might be available for use...

Oh heck Roobarb, very sorry to know your friend's brother had his covid test returned positive, but hopefully he will make a good recovery, as your neighbour seems to have done, thankfully.
Caroline another fair and productive day for you, with plenty of ongoing projects to keep you busy.
We had really pleasant weather down here, with some actual sunshine.
I made an early bread raid on town and was interested to note very few people in the precinct at just after 8:00a.m. so I walked down to Lidl where they have, at last, put screens between the self service tills so that 6 machines can work at the same time.
I returned home via the sea front, saw several pied wagtails, which I think over winter here from Scandinavia. 3 cruise ships at anchor.
Before lunch H and I went out along the front to enjoy the sunshine, and then after lunch I walked over to the lakes with a friend who wanted to be shown how to access the area. Someone told me there were some tree creepers, but I didn't actually see them, although I did see a kingfisher whizz past.
Picked up the second Plague programme on catch up TV.
Baby blanket close to finished, so I sent a photo to DiL who says she is delighted.

Quite sunny and bright and planted some plants I'd ordered online to go in the outside pots.
Had a whatsapp from nieces husband after her weekly scan. They are concerned that the smaller of the twins is not getting enough from the placenta and niece admitted. They are doing another scan today or tomorrow and if there is any improvement she will keep babies for another week. If no improvement she will have babies this weekend - she's 31 weeks and babies are small 2lb something.
So an anxious time for the family. I'm trying to take comfort from an item I read this morning - twins were delivered to a mother with COVID in induced coma - she was 26 weeks and the twins weighed 1lb. 11ozs and 1lb. 14ozs. When mother came out of coma the twins were 2 weeks old and she found it hard to believe they were hers.
Can only hope and pray that our twins fare as well.

Caroline, good that your turkey dilemma led to a laugh and cheering your daughter up. Perhaps you could buy a turkey anyway, I'm sure you'd be able to make lots of delicious dishes with it even if you don't use it for Christmas, the freezer is your friend! You certainly had a busy day and a very tempting sounding potato dish to go with the salmon.
MH, great to hear that Lidl have got the screens in, better late than never. More interesting wildlife around your way, I've seen pied wagtails but have never actually seen a kingfisher in the flesh. Well done with the baby blanket.
Annette, hope there's an improvement with the baby. It's amazing to see some babies that are absolutely tiny when born and go on to grow and live healthily, particularly so in the case you mention.

Annette- so sorry to hear about your nieces situation and do hope the babies make some improvements... a worrying time for you all.
But on the plus side as you mentioned the NHS worker who was in a coma with Covid-19 and was delivered of twins at the same stage as your nieces are now bonny looking babies...
Will be thinking about you all..
MH - we’ve had pied wagtails in the garden they’re pretty little birds... our friends behind us up the lane have a large pond with a branch overhanging it and they get a kingfisher who sits on it... not seen it myself but OH has...
When on holiday we watched one whilst sitting having breakfast up in the tea area of Sri Lanka... it was magical to watch...

I was in Sri Lanka many years ago.
Saw some amazing wildlife, and l remember the bird which looked very like a kingfisher. He dropped like a stone from a high tree, l could never understand why he didn't end up impaled in the ground, but he never did.

That is upsetting news Annette, but let’s hope the intervening time will give the little one a boost ,it is amazing how they can pick up.
No phone call from my daughter this evening ,she emailed to say a perm was winging its way to me!
She had been in a computer linked conference for over three hours ,was whacked ,she said in the email .
So I said if she was tired not to phone ,she is on two or three hours usually .
Anyway she didn’t ,but I did think she needed a rest.
Anyway her company has won the trophy for the branch that has the best customer satisfaction and best service record.
Was a bit lazy today and had a jacket potato with cheese and beans and salad
for my tea.
Got a letter telling me I should have my flu jab, well I had it last month-
there was another in with it telling me to save paper I ought to do these things online!!!!
I had booked the jab on the phone!
.Honestly.
Do you know , today at two O’clock it was dark as night.
Sooo dreary .
I think we all need Vitamin D, to boost us for the Winter.
Have done not much today ,but give a month by months breakdown of figures so my son
can fill in the zz@#&&#££ Belgian Tax return !
This will all be because of Brexit !
Well kitchen to put to bed ,last cuppa or warm milk and hopefully a better night’s sleep than last night,.
Not often I am awake like that.
What will that young Mum to be sleep like, what a worry when she and her husband should be so happy looking forward to what ought to have been.

MH - wonderful place isn’t it... Sri Lanka that is and yes amazing wildlife...I was fascinated with the peacocks as I never realised how much time they spend in trees! We stayed, for a few days, in the Mt Lavinia in Colombo... it’s where they timed the hospital scenes in the Bridge over the River Kwai... happy memories of that country...
Viktoria- well done to your daughter for her branch having the best customer service... always such an important part of any good company... you must be very proud of her...
I think sometimes letters get computer generated and nothing noted to your previous visit! No wonder there’s so much money spent unnecessarily in the NHS!
Hope you get your #&%#££~€§ tax form sorted!

Congratulations to your daughter Viktoria. I'm not surprised that her conference was exhausting, I find it tiring just doing my art class, I don't envy people having to spend so much time on it for their work.
Here's hoping for some sunshine tomorrow.

Thanks everyone ,she is a good employer ,they are like a family .
They followed her to a man when she started her own franchise ,sales staff,mechanics etc.
Well the nice sunshine did not materialise ,so washing inside!!!
Must check my Tesco order for ingredients for mincemeat ,a lovely orange tangy one with Cointreau .
I used to make eight dozen mince pies on Christmas Eve!
OH was so helpful, like a big kid,he loved helping with the Christmas stuff.
Boxing Day was his Mum’s party,just cold meats ,jelly ,blancmange ,chocolate log etc .Nothing special but we would not have dreamed of going anywhere else.
So funny ,all the grandchildren ,8 ,sang and recited etc .
Every year we had strict instructions not to spoil the wrapping paper on our presents ,she could use it next year. ;D
“ When Santa got stuck up the chimney”, Great Grandma always said
.,”Chimbley”.
We used to go down with the pram, as we took chairs ,there would be twelve of us ,Grandma had not that many.
We never considered doing anything else on Boxing Day.
It was like “My old man said follow the van”.
Found a rug Roobarb ,seems the right colour and many sizes so will enquire .
Don’t want red or orange ,if I can speak to a person I can make that clear.
,Pork for tomorrow, am going to take the rind off, do that with the roasties
abd slow cook the pork with all sorts of things,like thyme, shallots ,white wine.A practice run for if I am doing Christmas here ,on my own or with son and daughter in law.
Well my perm has come ——I thanked the postie, said what the parcel was
abd said I needed to something about my horrible hair as I looked as if I
had just been let out of an institution,hoped it worked ,She said “ and if it doesn’t ,you will look as if you have just been let out of another institution “!
It’s being Northern wot dus it!
Caroline my OH had to go to Ceylon , as it was in those far off days .
He though it lovely ,he stayed at The Galle Face Hotel.Near the sea.
Gave strict instructions about his laundry ,Rael Brook Toplin shirts had just come out, non iron .
Yes care would be taken ,so he was surprised on his stroll along the beach to see the laundry man washing them in the sea ,treading them with his feet !
But they were beautiful when returned.
It was a business trip ,he had been to India first,
Well a cuppa ,electric blanket on first , and lock up for the night.
