Having visited the family farm at 'Raheelin' near Kiltyclogher in Leitrim many times growing up i knew quite a few with the McGowan Surname. Yet Searching through Irish records for the Manorhamilton district I don't think there are many. My Great Grandmother Mary Rooney was born 19 n0v 1853 at lugashnaghta. Married Peter Harte at Glenfarne 24 june 1872 and died at our family farm Raheelin, kiltyclogher on 18th Feb 1936. Her parents were Patrick Rooney (1822-1894) and Bridget (Biddy) Mc Gowan. She is my Mystery. When she married Patrick Rooney on 19 Nov 1853 the witnesses were a Hugh McGowan who might be a brother or her father and a man called Pat Mc Morey it looks like ?
Although there isn't such a name, Anyone any ideas on how to proceed. Thanks Patsy

I think the marriage date is wrong there - you have it the same date as Mary’s birth :)
They married in Kinlough parish, March 1846.
It looks as though Kinlough parish events were recorded in Ballyshannon district - lots of McGowans there.

Baptisms only begin 1835 for Kinlough parish.

Griffiths Valuation - Rossinver parish (Kinlough etc)

Griffiths Valuation - Cloonclare Parish (Kiltyclogher etc)
There are variations in both parishes for McMorey name.

When using Irish Genealogy for 'Mc' names it's best to search for both Mc_ andMc _ such as McGowan and Mc Gowan. I've noticed, especially in the marriages, that all results don't always show using Mc_.

Thank you so much for all the help, you are all wonderful. Pat

i have realised through all my searching i have only ever used Manorhamilton as the district as our farmland was there. Never thought to look for others is such a small area. Thanks again. Pat

No it doesn’t.
Sorry, I thought you had the marriage so didn’t post a link as you gave all the details bar the right date.
