Title: Chatterton family!
Post by: JKeijsers on Sunday 06 December 20 19:11 GMT (UK)
Heeellppp! I already have about two years of genealogy experience, so I am not really a beginner, but I am new to this website. I have so many families that I need help with, but I'll start off with one family. The Chatterton family. Arthur Chatterton born in 1839 in Lincolnshire, died in 1925, New Plymouth. He married Mary Anne Paulucci 1843, 1925. I would like to find any living relatives on roots chat of them, also any stories, and information. I also have a question, I forgot exactly which year, But I remember looking up in the New Zealand electoral rolls, and I think in about 1905-1923 it said on the electoral roll that he lived on Frnakley Road and was a farmer, in New Plymouth. Also at some point, he lived on Lemon street it said on another year of the electoral rolls. I would like to find out exactly what the address of Frankley Road, and Lemon street he lived at, how!
Kindest regards, JKeijsers

Welcome to rootschat, JKeijsers

When did he move to New Plymouth, and what were the names of his children?

As rootschat is a British based site, are you expecting any descendents in this country?

Unfortunately we cannot name living people on here.

Have you looked in 'Surname Interests', under 'Your Tools', below, to see if anyone on here is researching the same families?

Arthur is in about 60 trees on Ancestry - have you attempted to contact any of those tree holders?

Some of those trees appear to be extensively researched, for you to follow up.

Which family member are you related to?

Hi, thanks for getting back to me. He had lived at Frankleigh Park, in New Plymouth and was a Farmer, I found this on ancestry on the 1905-1906 electoral rolls. His wife was Mary Ann Chatterton (nee Paulucci). He had Rosannah, William (Willie), Walter, Adelina, Annie and Agnes Chatterton. I would like to find exactly where in Frankleigh Park he lived as a farmer, like his address please.
Kindest regards, Joshua

Thanks so much! I already knew about his will and later in his life, he was the boarding manager at a boarding house, But I really would like to find out exactly what address he lived at Frankleigh Park in the 1905-1906 electoral rolls.
Kindest regards, Joshua

Rootschat is a British-based site and many of us are British with local knowledge.

You are wanting a fairly specific New Zealand query.  As far as I can see Frankleigh Park is his address.  The people who live on roads or streets in the same directory do not have house numbers so you will have to look in other documents for more precise numbers - if they have them.

As you post in the middle of my night I am assuming you are based in New Zealand, or not in Europe.

Have you considered using a local New Zealand geographical website to help with locations?

Yes, I have tried, but even people here don't know? Nowadays there is a lot of information going into buying a property, I thought there must be records of Arthur buying land!?

In 1895/1896 he is at Keat Road, a farmer.

New Zealand land records from Find My Past:
https://www.findmypast.co.uk/transcript?id=ANZ%2FRETURN_FREE_NZ%2F10581

In 1882 he is a farmer at Taranaki of 94 acres value '250' (presumably pounds)

How do you know that he owned the land?

Again, surely New Zealand land records are easier to find in New Zealand websites?

I haven't subscribed to find my past. Frankleigh Park is a suburb, not a small area. I have looked for half a year to find this, I'm not quite sure what kind of New Zealand websites there are?

Try searching on the above guidance.

I know Frankleigh Park is an large area, but that is the address given.

Thank you! I Also have Charles Chatterton, grandfather of Arthur who lived in Louth, Lincolnshire in the early 1800s, I would like to find his exact address if possible?

Houses did not often have exact addresses in the early 1800s.

Yes, there will be deeds etc, but if you are trying to associate a person with a specific parcel of land or house that they were renting, highly unlikely.

Is he the only Charles Chatterton living in Louth then - there is one in East Theddlethorpe, a farmer, in the 1849 Post Office Directory - if that address is good enough for them.....
