hello can anyone please help iam trying to find out if my uncle was in Italy world war 2 from what i have been told he use to tell tails about his war wounds to my cousins who are lot older then me all i no about him is name james disley second world war lived in burnley lancashire can anyone please help thank you lisa x

As he served after 1920, his record will still be with the Ministry of Defence and you will find nothing useful on-line.

You will also need to know which branch of the armed services he was in (Army, Navy, RAF). You will need a Death Certificate, a Date of Birth OR a Service Number, and a fee of £30.

There is also a photograph of a  James Disley of Layfield Street, Burnley in the Burnley Express 31st July 1940.

Added, they are not the same person as JD of Layfield St was born 1917.

There is a J Disley  driver RASc T 10696545 injured 28/12/1943 in North Africa/Italy on the casualty lists.

The one with the photo in the paper looks to be the son of an Edward Disley not James Disley
