Title: William Lloyd possibly William Roberts Lloyd
Post by: swissancestor on Tuesday 08 December 20 22:28 GMT (UK)
I'm trying to find the birth record for William Lloyd born between 1848 and 1853. According to the census of 1901 he was working as a gardener and was born in Over, Cheshire whilst the 1891 census states birth place as Chester. His wife was Martha Henry and his father according to his marriage certificate was also William Lloyd a gardener. One of his sons was called Percy Roberts Lloyd i believe that his mother was a Sarah Roberts hence his sons middle name. I believe he served in the Suffolk regiment as William Roberts Lloyd the records for which would indicate he was born around 1852, private William Lloyd is shown in the 1881 census as being born in Vale Royal, Cheshire. There appears to be another William Lloyd born in the same period in Over whose father John Lloyd was a shoemaker. I can find no birth record that matches on either free BMD or the GRO database? i've also struggled to find him in the census prior to 1881. Any help please?

This one for Jane perhaps

Sep 1850 Wem and Whitchurch
Jane Lloyd mothers maiden name Roberts

Looks like Jane remains single and is working as a servant on later census in various parts of the country.

Interesting entry in Birkenhead baptisms which ties in with the Birth Reg.

Nov 12 1848 William son of William and Sarah Lloyd, William a gardener, Abode - Birkenhead.

Thanks for all the contributions. Yes i think William Roberts Lloyd's parents were married in Birkenhead, the record shows William Lloyd as a gardener from Over, Vale Royal, Cheshire. The census for 1851 and 1871 for William Lloyd have really helped, i wonder where he was in 1861 if not with his mother? the baptism record for Nov 1848 does seem to link to his parents and i wonder if he was born in Over?, I've ordered the certificate to check. Its interesting that his military record shows a different age but I think its possible he wasn't sure of his age or birth place. I'm now checking the death place and dates of his parents. At present it looks like William died in Atcham in 1854 and Sarah possibly in Ellesmere in Sep 1861?
