Hi my great great grandad is Archibald Myers/Mereys..He was born 1815 to 1954..travelled On ship called Mermaid to Victoria Australia, maybe with a Nephew Hugh I read somewhere,this was for gold rush.He was a Stone Mason !! something happened and actually died was sent to Castlemain Hospital Victoria.He Died 1855 but cant find where he is buried.Penny Worth cemetary had one unmarkef grave....but they knew his name??? trying to find his grave in a some of the cemetaries amongst the gold fields Alexandra hill and many in Castlemain gold fild areas .Sooo am sure he would not have been cremated and sent home etc.If anyone can help thats great.also

Doesn't look like there is any further information recorded.
Did he marry in Australia ?

Is there no information in the "when and where buried" column on his death cert?
I am pretty sure it was a criminal offence to cremate humans in 1855 in Victoria.

1851 Census has a Archidald Myer bor c 1815 Scotland, living in Cumberland with his Family.

As of today I lady I contacted in Castlemaine Victoria Burial indexes will get back to me hopefully where he is buried,,, so just hang on I will get back as soon as I can😁

Hello I am Glynis Andrews.Imformationon Archibald Myers Meyers.Born1814...sailed out to victoria Australia 1954 to dig for gold.He left his family behind.conditions of scurvy and disintry run wild he died in 1855 in Castlemain Hospital,Buried in Castlemain Cemetary..Victoria Aust.His grave site an old site and was reused 1996.But we no what section.Archibald is my great great grandad.I live in Australia Sth.My mums mother is a myers.Catherine May.Its taken me a year to find this and the ship he sailed on was ss Mermaid and he might of traveled with an uncle Hugh???who died also.I will try send map of Cemetary,I had trouble getting on here.

Did Archibald’s family go to Australia after him?
Or is the fact that you and your mother are in Australia the result of a later emigration?
If he emigrated in 1854 and died in 1855 it doesn’t seem much time for him to marry and have a child. But of course not impossible!

A quick skim through the previous posts about Archibald MYER and Hugh HART.
I can add the 1854 Mermaid shipping passenger list shows Hugh HART aged 54 and Archd.MAYER (sic) aged 36 ticketed together (#1282) arriving July 1854 to Melbourne from Liverpool.

This "Gentleman" - Archibald Meyers is quite the mystery...
Im approaching this from the other end, Im a Meyers, Archibald is my 3rd G.Grandfather.
Ill copy some info notes on him below:-
Archibald meyers - 3rd great grandfather
Travel to aus via Mermaid 1854 claimed age 36
with Hugh Hart aged 34
Aus death index / 1841 & 1851 england census
indicate aged 40 (birth 1815)
Married aged 20 to Margaret Bulman, 10 children -
James, Elizabeth, Edward, Thomas, John, Archibald Jr,
Jacob, Hugh, George & Cathrine
Lived Wetheral Carlisle (house still stands)
Some interesting points here, He had a son called Hugh and ive very recently done the ancestry DNA and found many links to Australia ( inc south ) and New Zealand.
Im aware but cant name off hand that another Meyers also went down under and worked on the construction of the Sydney harbour Bridge, im prepared to share any and all information if its of use to anyone.

Hi there hope I am dioing this return email properly ,I find it hard to get on as I am learing.My grandma...my mums mum is Catherine May Myers,Meyers.I am on Ancester.com Andrews family tree.I have were Archbald was died and buried.My great granddad is John myers n Sarah Elizabeth.Margaret his first wife but not the first to have his child..I am intouch with a Lady in cumberland she also connected..I am also so I have photo of Edward pboto of my ggrandad anyway how will we chat..

Great to hear from you! I'm not at home right now so have limited access but your from archibalds son john, I'm down the Edward line. Still in cumberland. I only have one wife for John, Catherine/Katherine who in her time did some needlework who - unrelated to this site was uncovered by another woman who collects old needlework and was writing a book, she said it was the best example she had seen and I have photos, I'll have to dig them out.

Yes its quite mind boggling.I have photo off Edward.Do you have FB messengerThere are lots off changes Margaret Archibalds wife ofcourse Fransis Birkett and theres children then there a changes and its Williams and his children,Archibald before he married Margaret had a child to Jane Chambers.I do have cencus regards Glynis Andrews.
