Title: Surname suggestions
Post by: Spidermonkey on Monday 28 December 20 13:11 GMT (UK)
I know what I think this surname is, but I wouldn't mind some fresh eyes looking at it too!  Any suggestions are gratefully received  :-*

I thought Ryan initially, but couldn't see how you would form the R with the pen strokes used.

Possibly Logan?

I saw “Ryan” at first, but another look at the pen strokes and I see “Logan”.

Hi.... If I squint it could even be Logan.

The capital L is the same as my nan used on her surname.

  Just adding an idea.

 Tazzie

I am pleased that several of you are reaching the same conclusion that I had, which was that it was Logan (I started with Ryan, then went to Lyan and finally to Logan).

I think it definitely starts with an L, and ends with 'an'.

Some context might help. What is the document?

The document is a guest book - the only writing by Cecil V L*an is that signature.

And it's 1911? What country?

The family who owned the guestbook had their main residence in Oswestry, but did a fair bit of travelling around.  I think they were in the UK at the time of this signature though.

In  my utterly non-specialist way, I'm guessing that the signature isn't one of a particularly old person - I'm thinking aged between 25 and 45. (But that really is me just pondering out loud, please don't think that there is any known accuracy there!)
