The marriage of Janet Y C Stewart and Robert Black was registered in Alnwick in Dec Q 1915.
In 1939 Robert and Janet were living in Alnwick. Janet's year of birth 1897.
The death of Janet Y C Black was registered in Northumberland N 2nd in Mar Q1960. Age 63
That is all I know of her with any degree of certainty.
The following may be of relevance or entirely co-incidental.
Birth. Janet Stewart, Dec Q 1896. Berwick. Mmn Conroy.
No obvious Stewart/Conroy marriage.
1901. Janet Stewart, 4, born Berwick. Living with 3 siblings in Alnwick. Eldest sister, Nellie, 10, born Scotland.
1911. Matching entry for Janet Stewart, 14, born Berwick. Living as inmate Alnwick Union Workhouse.
I know Janet's marriage certificate would name her father but give no clue to identity of her mother or where/when they were married.
The birth certificate of Janet of Berwick would name her parents but even if fathers' names matched, would not confirm that two Janet's one and same person.
I am quite prepared to pay for certificates but wish to reduce the chances of errors so would appreciate any help in further identifying Janet Young Conroy Stewart.

This is an interesting post to me as my ancestors are Northumberland Conroys originally it would seem from Monaghan in Ireland. I have quite a few dna matches with people with surname Stewart but not sure how they fit in.
I am probably not being much help here as I don't know how things are fitting in with this Janet. However, I will throw some things in I know regarding the surnames just on a very small off chance that any links might emerge.
My Great x 2 Grandfather was James Conroy. He had a brother called Joseph Conroy. I believe Joseph married a Mary Ann Allan/Allen under the name of Joseph Gilroy, St Alban, Earsdon 19 May 1862. Her Father's name was Robert. I do know for definite that my ancestors went under a 'Gilroy' alias occasionally, by accident or design I don't know why this was.
Joseph's wife Mary had a sister called Sarah who married a John Stewart and a sister called Jane who married a Charles Young.
This might tie in somewhere with things or not at all but I thought it just might be worth mentioning this just in the tiniest case something ties in somewhere.

I wonder if Janet's Mother Mary Conroy's parents are the John & Mary living in Morpeth in 1861 with children, James, Edward and boarder John Steward. John born Gateshead 1832 and Mary in Warkworth.
In 1871 John and Mary in Alnwick with children Edward, John and Mary age 2.
Son James from 1861 census - I wonder if he might possibly be the one who married Mary Jane Armstrong in 1875 in Morpeth?
If so, their daughter Sarah Conroy born 1888) seems to be possibly be living in Bedlington in 1891 with widowed Ann Conroy wife of Peter as well as recorded with own Mother Mary Jane . I believe this Ann had been previously married to Daniel Mackbride (various spellings). Her maiden name was Miller - Father Jacob Miller and Peter's Father on marriage entry was John Conroy.
It is complicated as the Millers tie in with my ancestors. In 1871 Peter & Ann seem to have my Great X 2 Grandfather's (james Conroy) niece Mary Drummond living with them. She was the daughter of Adam Drummond and Ann Conroy.

Wow! Thanks, everyone, for a terrific response. It is almost information overload, and will take me while to sort it all out.
A couple of quick observations. Janet of Berwick and Janet Y C Stewart both have father John. Unfortunately an all too common name. JYCS's father not identified as "deceased" on her marriage record. Janet of Berwick born 1896. If 1939 register to be believed, JYCS born 1897. No clue as to where name Young came from.

Perhaps when I have had chance to examine the evidence more closely, some of these reservations may be eliminated.

Thanks, Sandra. That Young reference has given me something to work on.
I also think I need to get a copy of the Black/Stewart marriage to see if holds any additional clues - witnesses, etc

I have no certificates to support my theory, but there is circumstantial evidence that the parents of the Janet Stewart whose birth was registered in Berwick Dec 1896 were John Stewart and Mary Conroy (Mar 1901 Alnwick), and that John's parents were John Stewart and Elizabeth Ann Young ( Dec 1860 S Shields).
In 1891 and 1901 John was described as a "chimney sweep". He died in 1904 (Mar 1904 Alnwick. Age 41)
Janet Y C Stewart was married on 30 October 1915. Her age is shown as 18, a spinster with no occupation given. Her father is recorded as John Stewart, deceased, a general labourer. As far as I can determine, the witnesses were a young solicitor's clerk and a railway booking clerk. The groom was a railway signalman. In subsequent census records, JYCS's place of birth was given as Berwick.
I can find no second Janet Stewart on Free BMD, or on any census return that suggests there may have been more than one individual of that name with a similar personal profile.
Is there anything further I can do to conclusively establish that both sets of records refer to the same person?
