Despite my best efforts I cannot find Thomas Edward Markey in the 1911 Census, the aim of which is to find the names of his parents. I do know from GRO that his Mmn is Howells. Thomas married Doris Violet Potter at St Catherine's Church Caerphilly 26/12/30.
I have been using RootsChat for many years and have found it a great help in finding people that my own research has failed to do. I hope someone can solve what seems a simple request but one I am struggling with right now!
Kind Regards
Robin

I do know from GRO that his Mmn is Howells.
Simplest way is to order a copy of his birth certificate as you have the registration info.

Have a look for that couple in 1911 and you will hopefully find the child you are looking for :)

Charles John Howells married Margaret Howell in Caerphilly 8 Aug 1904. Charles was 23, father Charles both were Colliers. Margaret was 21 and her father was Edward Howells, also a collier.
I think that Margaret J Markey (Maggie J) is with a grandparent in 1911.

Many thanks for the timely responses. I didn't want to Clutter my messages with so much additional information but I had seen the possible siblings and noted the Charles and Margaret marriage in the BMD. I still couldn't commit to Thomas being their son. I also noted that a couple of their children were living elsewhere in the 1911 Census but no sign of Thomas. Ive tried trying various alternatives for his name like Tommy etc. It may be I will just have to go for the birth certificate, unless there is another source like Parish Registers etc.
Thanks again

The extra information that I posted helps us when looking for the family :)
If you are using FindMyPast to search 1911 the surname is transcribed as Marpey for John & Margaret - Thomas is Martney
-
This looks like Thomas with those parents living in Caerphilly.
I can’t see the family on Family Search
Thomas C Markey 6 yrs

Well that helped me massively. Can I thank everyone who have responded, it has really given me something to go at now. I have seen Thomas in the original 1911 Census and can see that transcription errors were made. If I need further help as I trace the family back, should I close this thread and start another one or leave this open? Would appreciate one last response on this.
Thanks again

Further to my Search and thanks to the help of Rootschat I now know the father of Thomas Edward was Charles John Markey. I found his birth registration on the BMD site b Jun Qtr 1881 Reg Dist Pontypridd Vol 11A 406. In an attempt to find his mother's maiden name, I inputted the details into the GRO Birth Search, but no record. Am I missing something? Can anyone help?
Thankyou

Hi, just for info, when Charles married Mararet Howells on the 8th August 1904 his father is recorded as Charles Markey occ collier, he was aged 23, Margaret's father was Edward occ collier. Might help to find a Markey/John marriage?
John

Again for info, 1881 census ref rg11 5302 127 18, on F M P recorded as Charles Marky. His mother is Eliza John a single woman, so probably no marriage to a Markey/Marky.
Charles & Margaret are on 1939 war register.
Charles does have a military record that can also be viewed on FindMyPast.

LadyHawk (a stalwart of Rootschat) thankyou so much! Both your recent contributions are very significant. I had Ancestry for sometime but had no reason to maintain the subscription as I had come to the end of my research on various families! Findmypast I have one of their subscriptions but not the full monty! Thanks again! I am helping someone else look into their grandfather's WW1 info, I think I will be back!
Kind Regards

While responses are hot, I'm struggling to find Charles Markey in 1891, 1901. Looking to more experience researchers who may be able to locate him. His start in life in 1881 looks difficult therefore he could have ended up living with other families. Also Charles's father, also named Charles according to Charles J in his Marriage to Margaret Howells, is also an enigma! Any help much appreciated as always!

I've followed William and Hannah Williams, with whom Eliza John and young Charles Markey are found in 1881. IN 191 and 1911 they have a Treharne John with them - a relative/cousin b c1865 in Merthyr
Think this is him in 1871 in Clydach - one of his sisters looks quite interesting!
Treharn John 55
Jane John 48
Elizabeth John 13
Ann John John 9
Treharn John 6
Mary Evans 21
Fanny Evans 3 Months
