A Boer War Medal was dug up at in a garden in Gartly.

Using available info, this was for Sgt William Martin, service no 1748. Gordon Highlanders (1885-1909)

William Martin was born on 21 April 1868 to Theodore and Ann Martin.

in the 1881 census he is 12

William Joined the army in 1885. He left the Army in 1909 age approx 42

William Martin died In 1951, age 82   it appears he didn't marry? (Single on Death entry)

trying to verify the above details, or add to them.

Can anybody help?

Thanks EV

Death entry all ties up, although mentions usual address as 5 Devanha Gardens.   South Fornet I know, as I grew up in the area as a kid. will look into that side more.

Need to find out who stayed at South Fornet in 1951!

Regards

Alan

The valuation rolls at SP only go up to 1940.
5 Devanha Gardens , there seems to be a West , South , and East(and a North ?).

Quite a few entries for 5 Devanha Gardens East at the British Newspaper Archives site , but nothing with William Martin.
Maybe try Aberdeen directories, you would think he must have something else after leaving the Army ?
Have you found him on the 1911 Census ?
