Rootschat does not allow 1911 or 1939 lookups for copyright reasons
Have you tried using Family Search for the 1911 entry
Parents marriage was 1921 per freebmd
As Rosie was only 17 in 1939 her entry will be redacted until it's known when she died & records are updated

Look for siblings.
Tell us when/where the parents wed.
Give us SOME idea of how old they should be.
-
Given the 1922 child was Rose Edith, try looking for the mother as Edith Ros*.
-
There is a Rosie Mellish aged 13 - a patient in Sussex Hospital, Brighton - born Brighton. She should be on 1901 if age is correct. (In 1911)
-
Good thinking Pauline - candidate in 1900 on freebmd but would suggest purchasing the 1921 marriage cert to check fathers name
-
yes they was married in 1921 and rose born in 1922
just cant find rosie mellis anywhere before these dates
-
thank you pennines i will try and find that
-
Longshot - could surname have been Melhuish which possibly sounds like Mellish or Mellis when spoken?
-
Yes Carole there is a baptism in London for someone of that name -- but she either marries someone else or dies (I've only recently looked and already can't remember why I discounted her!)
-
on the image (1911 census) it looks like a w more than an m :-/

I know what you mean - but the first letter is very similar to the 'M' in McCarthy further up the page.
Having said that it's no real help as there are no parents' names of course.

Did you see that there is a Mary Mellis marrying in Brighton the following year. She may be a sister.

HAYNES Edward
MELLIS Mary
You need to purchase the 1921 marriage cert, to get father’s name.

Outlaw I so agree with Jamjar -- and I know you don't want to - but I think you are going to have to obtain the marriage cert in this case.
As you are looking at this case for a friend -- think of it as a good deed!!
(By the way you may not be able to find Rose Funnell in 1939 as she was only born in 1922 and may still be redacted unless info has been provided about her death - BUT she would have been old enough to have been working away from home, so may not be with her father.)
Frederick Funnell may have re-married and be with someone completely unknown to your friend - also we don't know his year of birth (unless I have missed something which someone has posted).

I think you can count out Edith Rosina, given this marriage

Could 13 year old Rosie be a member of this Mellish family of hawkers/gypsies just a short distance away in Rottingdean in 1911? :-\
Mallish on free index on familysearch for some reason. Richard in the newspapers on several occasions.
