Title: Brooks Family Middleton by WirksworthDerbyshire
Post by: colnago on Monday 04 January 21 19:39 GMT (UK)
Can anyone help with the following please?  Some ago I was given some information but can find nothing to back it up, it has puzzled me for a long time. I was told by a reputable source that A Samuel Brooks (my Grandad) born 1880 married a Anne Bainbridge (daughter of Thomas and Emma Bainbridge.. The only marriage I can find for this Samuel was to a Florence Bridgewood or (Bridgwood) which took place in Middleton by Wirksworth.

I'm not quite sure what you mean here.

It is unclear from your post whether he was called "A Samuel Brooks" - that is, he had a first name starting with an "A", as you have put it as a capital letter, and as capital letters are used for people's names, this  suggests the "A" was his name.

Assuming he was actually called just 'Samuel Brooks', you say he was your grandad, so do you not know who your grandmother was?
Is this what you are trying to find out?

Do you know where and when your grandad was born?
Have you found him in the 1881 and 1891 Censuses?

I was told by a reputable source

Can you expand on that please - what source was it?  It may have been an unwitting mix up of names or something  :)

Is this right

Anne Bainbridge born 13 May 1884
Middleton by Wirksworth

Possible marriage for her 9 Jun 1910 to
John Thomas Ford

That couple are together until death so I don't think she married A Samuel Brooks at any time.

Samuel Brooks marriage as you say to Florence Bridgwood 1 May 1905

They had 3 children by 1911.  If you can trace backwards from yourself it should lead to the correct grandparents.

Hope this will help.

Thanks for all input. I must have been given incorrect information......the person in question who is now dead maybe confusing some of the names.

That's good to hear.  If you need any further help just ask.

For info the 3 children born before 1911 to Samuel and Florence were called

Thomas born 1905
Rose born 1907
Anne born 1908
