Title: Pale Jane Jardine
Post by: Neale1961 on Wednesday 06 January 21 06:07 GMT (UK)
This is my great grandmother Jane Jardine, born 1856 Glasgow, and married 1891 Dumfries. She is very pale and faded here, and maybe a keen restorer can find her face again.
She looks to be in her late 20s or early 30s, so I am assuming the photo dates from the mid-1880s, but I would be interested to have the opinion of the daters please. Thanks in advance.

Hi Neale

I'd say it is early 1890s. She's not showing a ring so it's not a marriage photo. Maybe an engagement photo.

You lot are amazing! How quickly you work your magic – all those lovely restores while I was sleeping. Japeflakes, Ian, Gadget, Handypandy, Carol, thanks to all for all your great work. I am enjoying the big improvement in the clarity of her facial features. I can see what the hairstyle is now, and I am even getting a sense of the texture of the fabric in her dress - interesting detail at the top of the sleeves.
Thanks also for the comments on date, Gadget and Carol. I wondered about it being close to her marriage, which is why I included the date in my 1st post. No wonder she is looking so sophisticated and elegant.

Great photo and lovely restores
What an incredible wasp line.waist

I know symbolism was very prominent in this era and wondered if the basket of flowers held a meaning or just a photographers prop
