My great grandfather's death certificate states he was a housepainter aged 51 in Glasgow who died in the Western infirmary due to a fall from a window ledge in 1895.
The next entry is a chimney sweep aged 45 who died on the same night in the same hospital, also from a fall.
I'm presuming they both died from some accident at the same building.
I tried a bit to find newspaper reports but couldn't find it reported anywhere.
Any ideas please??
Thanks :) :)

It could be just coincidence, the fact that they died on the same night doesn't mean that both accidents took place on the same night. One or both could have been in hospital for days and subsequently died of their injuries. Unless you have information to the contrary?

Welcome to RootsChat!
Maybe share your great grandfather's name or that of the sweep?

Welcome to RootsChat.
I agree with Roobarb. I can't think of a reason why a house painter and a chimney sweep would be working near each other.
There were plenty of tall buildings in Glasgow to fall from.
Western Infirmary had 350 beds at the time.

It is not likely that a chimney sweep and house painter would be working on a building at the same time. Sweeping a chimney could create dust which would stick on any newly painted surfaces.

Was sort of hoping that either the ggrandfather or the sweep might appear in newspapers. The refs can be difficult to find.

Do any of the entries have a RCE attached which may give an explanation of what happened?

I had no idea what an RCE is, had to look it up. For the benefit of anyone else who doesn't know, here is some clarification:

Glasgow Evening News 8-8-1895
FATAL ACCIDENT TO A PAINTER.
The next case was that of Alexander Kelly,
painter, who was killed through falling from the
window of a house at Waverley Terrace, where
he was at work, on the 5th July. The evidence
was to the effect that he was standing on the
window sill painting the woodwork on the out-
side of the window, when he overbalanced and
fell to the ground, sustaining such injuries that
he died in the Western Infirmary on the morn-
ing of the 9th July.
A verdict in accordance with the evidence was
returned.

If there is an entry in the Register of Corrected Entries (RCE), then it should be linked to the original registration when viewed on ScotlandsPeople, and available to view at no additional charge. I say it should be linked, I have two birth registrations for my great grandmother, both with RCEs, one had the RCE linked online, the other I had to e-mail ScotlandsPeople about. They were very prompt about sending me a copy of the missing RCE however, although it still hasn't shown up online almost three years later.
I don't know how it works for death registrations, but for birth registrations if there is some sort of notation in the left-most column, this is usually an indication that there is an RCE.

Glasgow Royal Infirmary recorded 82 accident cases the week ended 7th August, so perhaps numbers were at a similar level in July, both there and at the Western, and so possibly just a coincidence both dying of falls.
-
The sweep, Robert Neville, fell from a ladder when going to put out a chimney fire in Piccadilly Street.
-
Oh thank you so so much!!
Yes my great grandfather was Alexander Kelly.
So him and Robert Neville died in different accidents.
There was corrected entries for both yes.
