Title: Diary > Tuesday 19th January.
Post by: Viktoria on Tuesday 19 January 21 18:31 GMT (UK)
Hope everyone is alright , and your loved ones.
I am fine now, dizziness gone ,well inability to stay upright really.
I will get checked out when it is safe to do so.
B.P. tablets might need reducing.

Bad storm due  later, and let’s hope no fatalities, as flooding is expected.
Anyone who does not think there is massive climate change needs certifying.
Hebden Bridge  is under threat ,not heard about this specific area.

Just had my evening meal, tagliatelle with a broccoli and Stilton sauce.
I am hardly ever hungry these days.
But remember to drink plenty.

To do with another post ,I rooted out to send a photograph ,a lpiece of tartan
which was that of my husband’s family although they lived in Lancashire all their lives.
In the softer  ancient colours .
Bought in Inverary.
Now I have got to tidy it away!
Can you imagine how appalling it must have been wearing the kilt in the trenches!

My very elderly neighbour is alright ,had her vaccine early last week.
I always check ,a few minutes chat and I know she is alright.

Goings on in Cardiff!
A sort of drinks party ,attended by those who ought to know better.
Why do they think they are above any restrictions, restrictions they happily impose on others.

Last day for Trump, great security measures everywhere,
400’000 Covid deaths in the US! What a legacy.
Let’s hope it all goes peaceably.

Cheerio, look after yourselves,
Viktoria.

Viktoria, did you perhaps intend your posting for the diary thread? It doesn't seem to relate to coronavirus vaccinations.

Gosh! Looks like I'm first today!
Too wet and foggy to enjoy an early bread raid, so, driving to the supermarket, made a detour via the bakers.
For the first time since the original panic last year, there was a queue of people waiting when we emerged.
Before lunch there was a zoom call with a couple of ladies who are missing their monthly coffee and chat group, but sadly we had to scratch around for conversation, as of course none of us have been anywhere, so have nothing edifying to say.
Went for a walk along the prom, dressed up like Nanook of the North because of heading directly into strong winds and driving rain. On the plus side, it was so unpleasant there was almost no-one else mad enough to be out, and when we turned to retrace our steps, with the wind behind us conditions became almost balmy.
Visibility was very poor, but we could just make out 5 cruise ships at anchor in the Bay.
Sat quietly reading while H conducted 2 tutoring sessions, during which I produced our meal and washed up after, which did while away some time.
Watched the first instalment of a Scottish series - Trace - because I was fed up with French and sub titles, but actually I almost needed subtitles for some of the rich Scots accents.

Well everyone must have been tired last night or waiting for some to start!....
Well here goes...

The weather was mild a balmy 11C (according to our weather station) and breezy so I  got some washing in ...
OH busy making bread so a late lunch was looming...
after breakfast I decided it was time to clean the rest of the house... gave OH’s bedroom a good spring clean pulled out furniture etc... felt satisfied after the house looked sparkling...
Thought I’d copy the family document about our 14 gt. aunts / uncles to send off to my new 2nd cousin... got half way through printing and the ink cartridge ran out ...😱😱... a new one only put in before Christmas..... they certainly don’t put much ink in them these days and still charge a fortune... dilemma now... decided I’d post what I’d done so far photographed the rest and will email those in the hope he can read them ok! Put in a short note and walked up the village to post them...
Had shower hair wash by this time bread cooked and ready to eat... time 2.45!!!
Thinking about all this family history reenergised me into going through this part of my family tree again... see what’s new... I’ve got subs for both FindMyPast and Ancestry.... I found one census I had missed on FindMyPast but A just didn’t show it up at all what ever methods I tried... very frustrating... couldn’t see where to put in Reg no, folio, pg etc... then I couldn’t open the GRO site either... had quite a frustrating afternoon but enjoyed going through the families... by the time I looked at the clock it was almost 7pm! OH busy with his new 1500 piece jigsaw... neither of us very hungry so we just had an omelette with vegs...
Some good news from village friends two are having their first vaccinations on Thursday.... but not at our surgery as it’s too small... but good news...
Watched some tv... can’t believe the death figures today over 1600.... at leat infection numbers down...
That’s my day.... hope others have had a good one and not been too affected by the brewing weather... take care and stay safe...

Caroline

MH - looks like we’ve just posted at the same time.... shall I ask mods to merge the two?
You’re very brave going out in that weather.... can just visualise you dressed up!
It’s hard having conversations these days as you always resort to talking about covid!
Take care today and hope your weathers not too bad...
Caroline

ADDED - just asked mods to merge..

After feeling too tired to post last night I see there are two diaries for Tuesday this morning, a request made to merge. So until then I'll reply to them separately and post mine on MH's as it seems to be the earliest.

Well done on getting the printing done Caroline, they reckon that the price of printer ink is more than that of the finest champagne. You can buy ones with extended use, they work out cheaper per sheet but of course more initial outlay. I seem to remember that the code number is suffixed by X or XL, will check. Nice for you to get some research done and I'm sure your second cousin will appreciate it.

Am replying to both until merged, will post mine here.  :)

MH, wow you're brave tackling that sort of weather for your walk, it sounds very bracing! I'm sure the ladies will have enjoyed just having the virtual get together on your Zoom call despite the lack of conversation. Hope you enjoyed the Scottish series regardless of the language barrier!  :D

*Added  - merge was done while I was typing!

My day on Tuesday:

Had a very disturbed night, went off to sleep but woke about 4am. Although I'd got rid of the smell earlier in the evening of the leeks I'd been cooking I was convinced that I could still smell them strongly. I couldn't get back to sleep and eventually sat up to read for a while, having sprayed a little perfume into the air. Put my head down after an hour and I was away again.

As forecast, it was pouring down with rain and it never let up all day so once more I didn't get out for a walk.
Phoned a friend whose birthday it was, an older lady who usually deals with whatever life throws at her and manages to sound cheerful but today she seemed pretty downhearted. Not really surprising considering what she's had to put up with. She has an appointment for her jab on Thursday which is good.

Had another go with the soup, suffice to say it was a bit of a disaster. Put the rest of the chicken in the freezer apart from a few slices to make a meal with later. Had a sandwich for lunch and cleared up the mess in the kitchen.
My friend L phoned, she too was tearing her hair out with the drawing for the art project. Later on I tinkered with her reference photo again, it might help her further. Emailed it to her.

Did some hoovering while it was still relatively light, the days are stretching out a little. Heated the chicken in gravy and did a dinner with it. I've been buying frozen cauliflower to save on waste but there's too much stalk and the flavour isn't as good so next time I'll be buying fresh.
Watched the Pottery Throwdown  I loved some of the little buildings they created, such talent.

The disorder of this thread is driving me nuts!!

It is a bit confusing!  ;D I'll have to try and start the next one tonight, although having said that,  Caroline and I have often crossed over at that time. I think it's when someone is writing a lengthy post, another person can have posted while they're in the middle of it. I've taken to writing mine in Notepad in case it all disappears, then copy and paste it into RC. Unfortunately that means that if someone has already started theirs, having checked that no-one has beaten them to it, we end up clashing anyway!

Viktoria, I'm very pleased to hear that your dizziness has gone.  :)

Quite so Roobarb.  That's what I did, and that's what happened! ;)

I have been browsing and have an idea what happened.

Roobarb and Caroline both posted a Tuesday diary. Merge requested.

A couple of days ago Viktoria posted a diary type reply mistakenly on the Covid jab thread.

Request was made for it to be moved to the diary thread .... hence this quite confusing thread.  ;D

I think there has been a bit of a merge mixup.  ;D

Hello Chatters,
I hope you don't mind me telling you about my day Tuesday (yesterday for me here in South Australia).
Woke early as usual to a terrific morning, 26degrees.
Watered my shadehouse which contains my summer vegies, as I have no regular garden, only sand and bore water. I live on a farm in the SE of SA.
Had my regular brekky, then off to Naracoorte which is my nearest town, 35ks away to meet up with my weight watchers lot for a natter and coffee.
Then to the gym to do my oldies circuit for an hour, after which I popped into my daughter's house.
She was due to have a baby boy on the 17th. But no...he is quite happy where he is!
She is over it right now!
Then headed home after lunching with her to prepare the evening meal.
OH yummied steak and salad for tea.
Not looking forward to this coming few days...we are having a proper heat wave approaching with 43 on sunday.    Hiding!!!
By the way, last week my little town got hit with a fire. It wiped out several homes, livestock, fencing, sheds, hay etc and my hubby and I evacuated to daughter's with photos, hard drive, ancestry records, tax papers, 3 large cats, the working dog and 2 ponies.
All ended up ok for us though, nothing gone. It stopped 4k's from us.   Scary.
Sorry, I meant to say all that last week but was a bit busy.
Cheers to you all,
Stay safe
Chris

Weather dark and dismal, some rain and later in the day the wind got up.   Usual actvities during course of day.

Whatsapp with my niece - things going well with the babies.   I know husband is very hands on but asked if Luke (16) and Esmae (10) help in any way.   Luke gives them the odd cuddle but Esmae mothers them and is even changing nappies.  I remember when she played with her baby dolls they always had to have a nappy on so clearly good practice for now.   Bless her!

Did washing on Monday, just a set of bedding to do now and up to date.   Then the dreaded ironing.  Watched Long Lost Family on Monday - was surprised that a Spanish couple were allowed to adopt a child in England at a time when it was difficult for couples here to adopt anyway with all the rules and regulations.

At the weekend my sister and b-in-law finally got to see the twins albeit only through a window.  Very emotional from all accounts.

Cousins quiz later today so will no doubt be a laugh as usual.   Could certainly do with a laugh anyway.

Stay safe.

Annette

Sounds like life at home with the twins is settling in to a rhythm Annette, which is good news.
Enjoy the quiz.
Thanks for chipping in Chris. I always like hearing about life somewhere different.
How awful for you that the fire season has started already, and so close to home. You must have been immensely relieved once the danger passed.
I look forward to good news any day now about your grandson. :)

Woke up an hour earlier than I needed to but couldn't get back off to sleep.  I got up before the alarm and had cereal for breakfast  but no drink as it is a work day.
It was very early morning, dark, raining and a bit foggy when I lugged out my rubbish bin before setting off to work.  I went a little earlier than usual as this is my first day shift since bus services have been reduced again and I feel a bit anxious about what to expect.
I was some distance from the stop  when I saw a bus coming along.  I decided to make a sprint for it and put my arm out hopefully so the driver can see that I want to catch this bus.  The bus stops at the stop and I carry on running pell mell, but think, it's useless they won't wait, they probably haven't noticed and will pull away anyway before I get there.  But I carry on running.  My luck was in as the driver had noticed  and waited and opened the doors on my approach.  I just manage to gasp out "Thank you very much!" before heading up to the top deck.  There are a good number of people on this early morning service.    I am so out of breath, it feels a bit frightening as I gasp for air.    I have to pull my mask slightly from my face so I can breathe better.  I am clearly unfit for sprinting.  After a minute or two my breathing has settled down again and I feel back to normal.
When I reach Newcastle I see that the rough sleeper is in his usual spot.  His sleeping bag is at his side and he is sitting up, with his arms wrapped around his knees.  He looks very cold.   He has a lady friend with him today sitting opposite him.  She is talking a lot.  Of course, she might not be a lady friend.  She could be an outreach worker trying to talk him into staying somewhere better.  I live in hope.
I am the only passenger when I get on my second bus.
After my shift is finished I return to Newcastle and call at M&S to get a few things and something for tea.  I really wanted to get some veggie kievs with the lovely garlic sauce.  I was quite disappointed to see there were none.  I asked a staff member if there might be some out the back.  He checks his scanner  and tells me that not only are there none out the back but they don't expect a delivery for the next two weeks.  Darn it! I think.  I have been looking forward to those veggie kievs all day!  Something else I wanted was also out of stock so I had to do a bit of a substitute shop and added some bramley apple turnovers to my basket to cheer myself up.
The second bus journey home felt very relaxing but cold.  Since last week the new idea is to keep windows open on the bus.  There is a sign on the windows stating:
'Please leave this window open Layers on to stay warm, windows open to keep everyone covid-19 safe!'  (I have attached a photo I took at the weekend of the sign - can't adjust photo size as I am using my Kindle to post)
Had my substitute tea when I got in and  read for a bit before bed.

Tuesday was dull but we did have some sunshine and I think some flurries as well.
Didn’t do much, a bit of online work, a bit of family history, a bit of the now accursed jigsaw, but am almost done. Managed to clean the main bathroom after my shower.  Afternoon taken up with nap (leg pain tires me out), some TV, and made evening meal.  Had given OH dessert choice and he picked the right one - Lemon squares, so made those.
My brother phoned about money owed by the government to many many thousands of veterans, including, apparently our father, who died in 2012.  Will have to see if they contact me, as I was the executor.  Not holding my breath!
Had a bad night, woke at 3:15, leg pain, unusual when I am at rest.  Put my TENs electronic device on, it took the edge off, dozed a bit.  Heard the snowplow at the school across the street around 4 a.m.  Why??  When I took the dog out there was only about an inch and a half of new stuff, hardly worth the effort, and very few staff in with the kids out. It was colder this a.m., though, supposedly -11C with wind.  Didn’t feel that cold.
Made tea, back to bed, been up just to get the leg moving, now I should get dressed!
We will watch the US inauguration at noon...out with the old, in with the new, thank goodness.

Aaw Caroline, don't let me put you off, we know from experience it can soon be sorted out if we cross.  :D

Chris, lovely to hear from you and what a different life yours is from most of ours. While I've been envying you the warmth, 43 degrees sounds a bit excessive! It must be so wearing for your daughter, hope the little one makes an appearance soon.Thank goodness you were all able to escape the fire and it never reached you. No wonder you were busy last week!

Annette, good to hear that the babies are doing well, and well done little Esme! Re the Long Lost Family episode, I think the Spanish couple were living in England at the time, perhaps they gave the impression that they were staying here permanently rather than going back to Spain. It must have been odd for the birth parents that their son's first language isn't the same as theirs.
Enjoy your quiz.  :)

Oh dear Ruskie, hope Tuesday wasn't too bad.

RTL, what a shame you lost out on an hour of your precious sleep when you had a long work day ahead.Thank goodness the bus driver waited for you after your sprint, not such good news about the shopping. I can recommend the M&S bramley apple hot cross buns, they're lovely. A distant memory!

Diana, sorry to hear you've been in pain, hope it gets better soon. Fingers crossed that the government comes up with your father's cash eventually. Minus 11 degrees, can hardly imagine it!

Thank, Roobarb.  It is now 4 in the afternoon here, my leg feels much better, just a twinge or two.  Very strange how it comes and goes with no real explanation.  I wouldn't mind getting the cash from the government, but I can imagine the rigmarole I might have to go through - just hate all that.  Today is much more like our typical January - I for one, cannot imagine doing yard work in January!!  The yard is rock hard under the snow anyway, and nothing is growing  :).  We are advised not to do any yard work until May, as it is too stressful on the grass.  But I always see lots of people out raking up the lawn in late April.

Pleased to hear your leg is better Diana. I believe sciatica is caused by the nerve so I suppose that would mean it would be intermittent. Of course I'm no doctor so it's just an educated guess!

My goodness so much to catch up on here!

Nice to read the news of a new chatterer Chrissie, but not so good when listening to you having to up sticks and away to safety.... glad hear that you and your home are safe but feel for those who aren’t.... you folk in Oz have been through soo much.... hope the baby arrives soon...look forward to the news.

Annette - so pleased to hear that Macy & Darcy are doing well and your sisters been able to see them... almost. Glad your niece has a little helper too ! Hope your ok down your way with this weather... I’ve a cousin who lives in Martlesham Heath....

RTL - my goodness that was a bit fraught having to race for the bus like that... at least the driver saw you and waited allowing you to recover on the bus...
It will be interesting to see over the weeks what shortages there will be in the supermarkets.... not too many hopefully...
Sorry to heat the homeless chap still at the bus station... let’s hope he gets some help soon..

Diana - .... -11C is not my kind of weather unless I’m on a ski slope and it’s crisp snow and clear sky, empty runs and wrapped up warm.... don’t want much do I!...although for all of you are used to those sorts of temps...
Hope your leg stops causing you so much trouble as Roobarb says if the nerve gets trapped or pinched it can be a right §#/§… in the #&/:,,§??? . Our garden at the moment would be nigh on impossible to dig as it’s virtually all clay soil... waiting till spring..

Caroline

Roobarb, yes I have had those hot cross buns before and they are yummy!  I also like the blueberry ones.  Looking forward to Easter time when they will bring out their range of varieties again.  :)

Yes, it was so kind of the driver to have waited for me.  It was a bit fraught.  I am not a spring chicken anymore and I was literally gulping for breath when I sat down on the bus. Partly thinking 'I can't breathe' and 'don't panic' and also wondering if I should have just let the bus go.

It is dismaying that for whatever reason this rough sleeper seems determined to stay at the bus station.  I really think there will be somewhere for people to go to right now but it really does seem like where he is must feel preferable to him.  It is hard to keep coming across him there either lying or sitting in the pavement.  Goodness knows what is behind him being brought to such a predicament.  :-\
