Title: Doyle's of Kilcoole, Wicklow
Post by: ElaineB1975 on Thursday 21 January 21 15:42 GMT (UK)
Hi all,

Looking to see if any of you fine people can help me on my quest for information on my grandmother.

Her name was Martha Doyle, she married my grandfather, Michael Byrne in Dublin in 1931 where they settled and had my father (Michael) in 1933.

Her father is Patrick Doyle was a gardener and I vaguely remember my Dad saying something about her mother dying when she was young. I am not 100% sure on the story but I think that Patrick remarried.

When my Grandmother died in 1951, her age on the death certificate was 46yrs old but I cannot find anyone on the 1911 Census with an age of approx 5 or 6yrs old which she would have been at the time.

I did more digging and did find a Martha Doyle born approx 1897 who is on the 1901 Census with a Patrick as the father. In the 1911 I find the same Martha but she is with a different family and down as a visitor which makes me think that my thinking of her father remarrying might be true.

Any ideas on how to research or any information i.e was a gardener a popular occupation to have in Wicklow etc would be appreciated.

Thanks all,

E

but they are most likely William Doyle and Martha Purcell
who married in the Registrars Office Kingstown 1854

Thanks so much Dathai,

Had found some but not all this information, unfortunately I have no surviving family members to confirm this trail is correct but I feel it is.

Do you mean my grandmother had her half sister as her witness?

If so then yes I had seen that, it took me a while to realise the name was Nora/h and not Mona as once I found that Patrick had remarried to a Nora/h thats when I put it together.
