Hi to all,
I have been given these photo’s to see if we can date them, if anyone recognises the couple, and potentially where the snaps were taken, possible estate. All pretty difficult, but the only names I have are of the gentleman wearing the hat and “possibly”
The person (wife) behind the camera. Their names Mervyn & Nancy Trunaman.
These photo’s were in the possession of a friend of Mervyn, Sheila Elizabeth Glassford Gale.
-
It would help to say when the gentleman was born if you know his name.
Are they both deceased now?
-
From the lady' dress I would say sometime in he sixties.Maybe late fifties.
Would suggest upper. crust,, very self assured woman comfortable with herself.
Gentleman' s specs should date it more accurately.
Talking to the gamekeeper perhaps? But all just speculation.
Probably way out.
-
I agree with Lola about the date of Nancy's clothing*. I think they may be Mervyn Stuart Trenaman and Nancy Kathleen Fisher who married in 1967. Nancy dies in 2002 and Mervyn died in 2008. Both born circa 1920.
Photos maybe Oxfordshire where they lived or could be any British estate.

* add - misread Lola's post. I thought she meant the 1960s not her age. I think this was 60s clothing for older women - reminds me of what my mother wore then. Could be later!
-
Having second thoughts.
The lady looks to be in her sixties judging by arthritic hands.
Maybe she is gamekeeper's wife talking to man in specs wife?
There are no clues as to where this is so you need someone who knew it at some time.
Posted this and they said to review it in light of further posts being added.
Sorry do not know how to either review or unpost.

It means you had a red warning - to read the previous post i.e mine ;D
-
Yes both are deceased.
And thankyou for sorting the approx dating of the photos, I also felt they looked like 60’s clothing.
And it was a long shot as to where it was taken, but food for thought on Oxfordshire.
Thankyou all for your help.
-
Gadget I did read your post and then was going to delete mine but memory failed me as to how to do this...
-
Gadget, Yes I did mean the 1960,s. By hair and clothing.
We had longer length in the 30's and then sort of just below the knee when the war came and dresses got shorter then after the war the "new look" look came in with longer length.
And yes I did think lady was about 60 but by her hands. But she was obviously younger if born in the 1920's.
-
I've tried to take off that nasty colour cast found in the pics of that era but I'm on my laptop, so only have limited filters. I've also enlarged. It could be late 1960s to 1970s. Nancy was b. 1919.
Add - when enlarged, I don't think the hands are particularly arthritic.
-
"Sheila Elizabeth Glassford Gale"
Interesting. Any connection to Marion Glassford-Gale?
-
Something doesn't add up.
How old do you think Nancy looks in this photo?
Remembering that women kept their clothes for years then..
Born 1919. Married 1967 aged about 48..
Which of the men is Mervyn?
What was Mervyn,s occupation ?
So they had no children? 48 is a bit late to have a child.

I would say the same. My Mother dressed like this in the late 1960s early 1970s when she was in her mid - Late 50s

Are you sure?
She could be circa 50.

Taken in the 1960's I would say
-
Gadget.
No. Totally unsure. She could have had a child.
I had a dress exactly like that in winter of 1968.!
Mine was blue woollen fabric .Hers looks exactly the same shape even to the pockets.Same length. Same neckline.
Worn with long sleeved blouse and cardigan over( winter).
Cannot find anything about Mervyn Stuart T. except that he died in Oxford. No christening record.

I was referring to her clothing not her fertility ;D

He's on BMD.
I was wearing miniskirts and just married. I had been a student in London for the previous 4-5 years though 8) My sister, who was born in the 1930s, was also wearing such clothes (Mary Quant styles).

There are a number of public trees on Ancestry and it appears that he might have married 3 times.
-
Not sure if this is relevant but might be of use:
Mervyn Stuart Trenaman is listed over a numbe of years in The British Imperial Calendar and Civil Service List He seems to have been at the Ministry of Defence.
London Gazette lists him as RAF in WW2.
Add - by 1967 he was in Dept of Trade (add - originally Board of Trade)
-
Interesting
In / 1973 and 1978 Mrs M S Trenaman is listed as a Commissioner on the Commission for the Constitution (under Lord Kilbrandon)
-
Here she is listed as Nancy Trenaman

Ashes for Nancy, Mervyn and Sheila were scattered in the same area in Wytham Woods.
The information that poured like water from a tap will take us quite a while to decipher, but it’s great to learn while they were here, they were well respected people. And yes it really doesn’t matter where the photo was taken or who the two people other than Mervyn were.
But must make a mental note for future photo’s, write on the back who, what and where. So we future generations are not pulling our hair out!!!

Wytham woods Oxon ,owned by he University.

Is there a post missing between my various posts about their careers and this post ? I've just had a PM addressing me as Lola!
All very odd.
-
Not to worry Gadget .
Maybe from Banks in error..
-
I'm not worried. I just find it odd.
Did you PM Banks with information rather than putting it on this thread?
-
Great work Gadget.
Carol
-
Thanks, Carol.
I warmed to Nancy. She achieved far more than Mervyn, and at a time when it was difficult to for women.
-
Yes Gadgget, l I did as it was regarding a person who I thought was still alive.
I am assuming he either replied to you instead of me or sent to both..
