Title: FOUNTAIN MAYWOOD FAMILY - BARKING ESSEX
Post by: charfountain on Sunday 07 February 21 14:24 GMT (UK)

Hi all,

Hope you are staying safe :) I am digging into our family tree and we seem to be stumped to the reason why our surname of Maywood changed over to Fountain? (my great grandad is ALFRED CHARLES FOUNTAIN who married Marianne Kyffin)
It seems that Henry Maywood married a Hannah Fountain and when they had children the Fountain surname seemed to take over the Maywood name? Research was done awhile ago now and it seemed it changed approx 1830s time? Any info would be much appreciated

thank you

Your Alfred Charles Maywood/Fountain whose father was William Fountain Maywood was registered for school 14 June 1880 at Hollydale Road School DOB 18 January 1873.

In 1881 the name is still Maywood by 1891 his father looks to be William Fountain still in Ilford Essex.

I would check the newspapers for an incidence between the census.
