Title: 1939 Register and a Gillingham Family
Post by: PaulJC on Monday 08 February 21 12:43 GMT (UK)
Hello All,

I am researching a number of people who lived at times in the Gillingham area.
There was a marriage in 1948 between a Mr D Mabon and Miss M Bishop in Chatham. The 1939 Register has her living in Norton Barracks in Worcestershire and her name has been amended in red ink to Mabon.
Did they change the 1939 Register to include weddings that were almost 10 years later than when it was taken?
I can also find no trace of a Mr D Mabon.
Thanks, Paul

Yes, the register was used as a basis for NHS records, so you see marriages for years after the original compilation

Thanks for the confirmation.

The Register was continually updated until the 1990's.
Just as long as the NHS knew of the changes!
Replaced by a computer system.

Comberton,
Thanks for this.

I have access to FindMyPast and cannot find any birth records for D Mabon despite having his exact DoB (26th May 1926)?

Comberton,
Thanks for this.

There's a potential birth in 1923?
Only birth I can see in England or Wales.

Yes I have seen that one but the DoB is correct as May 1926?
With no other references (1939 Register etc) it leads me to think that he was not born in England or Wales.

You say that you have a date of birth of 26 May 1926 - where did that come from?

There was a 2020 death notice for David Mabon (Gillingham, Kent) which gave his DoB. His wife was given as Maureen T Mabon.
The only other thing that I have been able to find out is that he was a policeman who had some duties with the Royal Family.

Wonder if your David Mabon was Scottish. There are 2 born in 1926. Sorry do not have any spare credits to check exact birthdate.

1981 the Queen's Birthday Honours
Member of the Royal Victorian Order, 5th Class (MVO)
Inspector David Mabon (Metropolitan Police)
I expect you have seen the letters for sale online to David from Clarence House.
The information listed links the above award to the recipient of the letters and confirms he was of Gillingham (presumably at the time)

Yes, I had seen the collection of letters from Clarence House.

Given his occupation, date of birth and place of residence I expected that it would be relatively easy to trace his earlier years !!

Hi John.

I see the two entries for a David Mabon born 1926 in Scotland but the certificates don't seem to be available regardless of any credits.
