Hi
Hope someone can help.
In my wife's family there is a Harry Emmanuel Parrett b 1865 who married a Sarah Winkfield. In the 1911 census also in the family is another Harry Emmanuel Parrett b1908 who is listed as Grandson. What I cannot find is whose son he is. It can't be the other Harry as he already has a son Harry Winkfield Parrett b 1899
Thanks

He appears to be illegitimate
PARRETT, HARRY EMMANUEL (No mothers maiden surname on index)-

OK thanks.

lost the first reply
Born 21/05/1908
died 1987
both registrations in Lambeth, no baptism found so far
for more information you need to purchase a birth certificate or go by elimination of whose child it could be from census

More workhouse records for Florence, she was removed from Islington to Southwark in 1913, with an illegitimate daughter.

This might be her birth
PARRETT, NELLIE MAY
Mother's Maiden Surname: —

I think her date of birth is given in the removal papers, she should also be in the workhouse records

Looks like Nellie had a hard life. Presumably she was in the Workhouse in the 1911 census? Looks like she married an Edward J Webb in 1926 age 16 but no signs of children. She died I think in 1949 age 38 (right age) in Windsor(!). Interestingly there is also a marriage for an Edward J Webb to a Margaret Parrett in 1940 then two children from that marriage. Seems unlikely there would be two men of exactly the same name marrying Parretts so is Margaret a relation (I don’t have her on any of my trees). If so then Nellie must have been divorced? Is there any way of checking? Also where was she in 1939 and with whom?
Thanks again for any help.
-
Sorry
The 1949 death is for Nellie Miriam Webb and there is a corresponding birth for that name in Windsor in 1911.

Just to add the marriage to Edward John Webb is on line

Thanks - so the death and marriage are both wrong! What did happen to her then?

http://www.workhouses.org.uk/Newington/
See the reference to Westmoreland Road in the paragraph entitled "After 1834"
-
So 182 Westmoreland Rd would be the workhouse then. Thanks. What was she doing in islington in 1913 and why would she have been 'removed' from there?
-
If you have ancestry, then you can also see the outwards removal order from Islington.
I think there is slightly more in those papers?
Here says a costermonger is father of her children
Some evidence from her mother Sarah Ann Parrett

Thanks Louisa but someone had found that the Nellie who married Webb was a different one. I'd like to know what happened to nellie as I can't find any trace of her. Also, I don't have Ancstry so can't see the mother's testimony. Hoepfully if the libraries ever reopen ...
Thanks

Was she an Ellen ?

The birth register at the workhouse says Nellie May.
-
Her mother Florrie Eugie Parrett buried 14 Nov 1917, Lewisham - could Nellie May have been adopted or placed with a family and therefore have a different surname ???
Have you tried searching for deaths (from Jun qtr. 1969 give dob) or the 1939 register with her first name/s and her dob 9 Nov 1910 to see if you get any leads that way
-
There's a NM eastman d Southampton 1971 with the right dob.

Probably a mistake on the record as
Nellie May Parrett was baptised with name Nellie May born 9 Nov 1910
and her birth entry 1910 registered with the same name
Something I did notice on the link John posted for The Board of Guardians record
but I don't know whether it might be relevant or not it was probably just a mistake with her first name but will post details anyway
