Through DNA, I have confirmed I am descended from William Husband (he married Elizabeth Wardale in 1780) who was baptised 1 Sep 1754 in Liverton, the son of William Husband. He also had two sisters - Dinah and Elizabeth - who were both baptised at Liverton in 1752 and 1756. The parish register doesn't give a name for the mother for any of the children but I've found a marriage between a William Husband and a Dinah Cornforth which took place at Liverton on 3 Dec 1779 - 27 years after the birth of William Husband Jr. Is this likely to be the people I'm looking for? There aren't any obvious marriages prior to 1752 in the Liverton registers.

It can happen if one of them is already married, and so they have to wait until the former spouse dies, before they can marry.

Another alternative is that either husband or wife had to look after their parent/s, and were unable to marry until the parent died.
I have a couple who had 4 children prior to their marriage. Each of those children were attributed only to the mother. I then discovered that the groom's mother was buried on 21 March 1831 and the couple were married by licence on 23 April 1831. The couple went on to have 2 more children before the wife died in 1835. When the husband died in 1845 his will acknowledged all his children, both natural and legitimate. He also left money to his sister in law who looked after his children after his wife's death.

In Liverton there is a Paul Cornforth and his wife Dinah nee Hesleton. They married in
1764 and had several children. Dinah Hesleton has very similar writing to the Dinah Cornforth who married William Husband. The trouble is I haven't found a death for Paul Cornforth yet. So William Husband might have married a widow and the mother of William jnr and his sisters might have been someone entirely different. The name Dinah might just be a coincidence.

What about William Husband married Elizabeth Middleton in Loftus 27 Feb 1750. Annoyingly before records contained signatures (or marks) and witnesses.

I think that might be what we would call 1751, register has May, then August followed by February under 1750 heading. So starting the year on 25th March

I think this would make more sense. I’ve just found a burial for William Husband in 1773 in the Liverton parish register which would rule out a 1779 marriage.

There's also a probate for a William Husband in 1780, but can't find a burial.
Then a marriage for a Dinah Husband to Thomas Brown in 1781. Again the way she signs Dinah is the same. One witness William Cornforth.

Burial of Dinah Brown at Liverton 18 Nov 1830 age 88, therefore approx year of birth 1742, matches with Dinah Hesleton.

I will hopefully get round to ordering the 1773 will when lockdown is lifted. There is a 1764 burial for Elizabeth Husband at Liverton - could be Elizabeth Middleton?

I have one couple in hubbies family had first child in 1873 and quite a few more but never married till 1904! did get certificate to prove it so yes it is possible
