My sister and I have recently inherited a number of family photographs. In one of the albums we found this photograph - its postcard format so I believe most likely to have been taken after 1902. Is anyone on here able to offer any more accurate dates based on the uniform that the nurse is wearing.
Thank you

It looks like She could be wearing a VAD WW1 uniform.

Very like - except didn't they have a red cross on their bibs? Or was that only some of them?
Wiggy
Edit
We still wore shoulder buttoning bibs on our Aprons when I was training. And stiff collars and cuffs. (dark ages that was!)

Some of them did Wiggy but not all of them, I think some where trained nurses and others were volunteers.

Ah ha - thanks - I thought the VAD were volunteers. ;) But I catch your drift! :)

Vera Brittain (Testament of Youth, etc) was a VAD nurse in WW1:

I still read her books every so often.

Very similar - different 'hat' ;)

Hope you don't mind, Carra. I couldn't resist giving the nurse a makeover. :)

Me too, I loved that book, she was a very special lady and suffered her own heartbreak too :-\
I did a display about her which drew a lot of interest, very satisfying.

Sorry I've been slow to respond and thank you Peter for the makeover. Fabulous job!
I'm going to have to do some digging to try and find out who in the family was a VAD. Thank you all.

If you google "Scarletfinders" you will find a lot of useful info on there about VADs work. I can't post a link from the iPad.
