Hi
My great, great Aunt was living at 'The Lawn', the Beach, Sussex in 1901. I'm just wondering whether this property still stands - its interest really as I'd like to see where she lives and perhaps find a picture..
I've tried google without luck. It would appear that all the neighbouring properties had house names - Deck House, Beach Villa, Lazylands, Rhodesia, Arcadia, Bide-a-wee and Gypsyland, were some of the homes on the census page.
I'm wondering whether any of these properties are still there?
Any help would be much appreciated.

No street name as such just the Beach? Sounds a nice place to be.
Perhaps you could find a neighbouring street from the census, search for that on street view or similar and it might lead you where you want to go.

You mention you have located neighbouring properties but have not told us where in Sussex this is

Thank you for your replies.
I think I may have had a breakthrough. It looks as if this is Shoreham and I've found a site listing properties in 1901. Evidently the property was in Bungalow town. I have now found a picture of the neighbouring property - Rhodesia. I can see the next door property so this could be 'the Lawn'.
I will continue to dig and hope I can find more.

If you Google 'The Eclectic Edwardian' you'll find out a lot of information as to when and how the 'Bungalow Town' started and developed. The area had a silent movie studio towards the west end of the main beach and before that several movies were filmed at Shoreham Fort.
Most of the original bungalows were constructed from and around Edwardian railway carriages brought on purpose to the site. I used to take learner drivers to the area when I was a driving instructor as it was a nice distant run from my home town and especially the younger people were interested in the silent movie history and also that on the seafront roads you can still see many instances of the old carriages remaining complete with the old acid etched notices on the windows - i.e. Smoking, Ladies, Third Class etc.

What a wonderful website about the beach houses, Rhodesia seemed to be an interestingly built house which is said to have burned down in 1923, several pictures on google of Rhodesia,

Rhodesia certainly was an impressive building. I’ve found pictures now showing both neighbours just wish I knew which one was the Lawn!!

OS map 1933 6" to the mile shows a "Beach Lawns" house at the Lancing side of the junction between Ferry Rd and Beach Rd/Old Fort Rd just west of the then lifeboat house
