Title: Handwriting Assistance Requested
Post by: Wexflyer on Tuesday 23 February 21 22:39 GMT (UK)
I can't quite make out the writing after "Mary Landy", towards the bottom of this character reference for an emigrant to Australia in 1841/42. Any assistance appreciated - last word seems to be "child"?

Could it be "a neighbours" child :-\

Hi Wexflyer,

It reads 'Under their protection a neighbours child'.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards

David

Doesn't make a lot of sense in the context, but ...
under their protection
a neighbors child

Edit: David beat me to it.

Thank you all! What I think  it is saying then is that they are taking Mary Landy with them to Australia - a neighbor's child.

Australian records say wife and child perished on the voyage.
